General Assembly Pizza - a little lack of transparency, a lot of room for improvement on customer service...

Ordered 2 pizzas (small single serving size) which were listed at $12 each. The lady that took the order told me the total came to $31.73. Thinking she made a mistake, I asked "how much"? She repeated "$31.73". So I said "for 2 pizzas?", and she responded "yes, with taxes and automatic 17% gratuity". I chuckled, because this was strictly a takeout spot. I said something like " is it mandatory?" thinking it was some BIA imposed voluntary charge like they have in some touristy spots around the province, and the server said dismissively that it was stated on the menu board. I admit that I did not see it. I paid for the pizzas and while waiting, looked at the menu board again, sure enough there is a sign (at the very bottom) that stipulates an automatic 17% gratuity. When I picked up the pizzas I mentioned to the person whom staff there referred to as "chef" that maybe they should make the gratuity sign a little more prominent, and that the person who took my order wasn't very helpful. I was met with a "Have a good day". Couldn't help but detect a little sarcasm there. Honest opinion for the food - I'd give the pizzas a 3 stars. Reminded me a little of the thin crust pizzas I had in Europe. Worth the advertised $12 each before tax? Not really, but I wouldn't feel compelled to write a review. Worth $16.37 each? A resounding NO. Especially not the way they hide behind "gratuity". BTW, the 17% is based on after tax price. Suggestion to chef/manager/owner - be upfront. People are willing to pay for good food and service. Hiding behind opacity makes you dishonest. I seriously doubt the 17% went to the staff, if it did, I certainly would not have tipped my server 17% because she did not deserve it. Maybe the owner can charge 17% more on the pizzas and pay the employees a better base wage. Many other options in the area, so this would not be a choice I would select again, or recommend to others. One last thing - they don't sell drinks, and the dining area and tables are free for public use. (Photos of pizzas are one of 4 slices per 9" thin...

AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COST. First you can clearly see the owners made their friends and employees give 5 star reviews without a word added. Absolutely atrocious. First to start we asked for a seat next to the water. There were several available and no reservations and they placed us next to this massive hydro box blocking our view. Even as we left the tables with the view were still empty.

16 for a tasteless inedible hamburger that compares to those thats given away for free. Only lettuce and one measly pickel slice lol they couldn't even splurge for tomatoes. 9 for half a plate of frozen fries. 17 for a cocktail that is 90% ice and the size of your palm (the pink one).

They got our order wrong twice. We ordered 2 drinks 2 burgers and one fries. They brought 3 drinks. Then only one burger and fries and said the other order of fries was coming lol not difficult when the menu is as small as the menu they have for dogs. I asked for a lid for the fries and they said they didn't have any. I guess they're used to people not wanting to take the inedible food home. The waitress then stood there looking at me blankly hoping I'd drop it but I refused.

Then the machine stated it doesn't accept TD debit cards. They also can't do separate bills for some reason so she sat there doing the math for 10 min.

As we left we had to tell the people in line to not go in. Luckily they listened. Wish we had the same luck and save 70..SEVENTY on inedible food and watered down drinks. My friend had to get quesadillas at the taco food truck after lool There are so many other options along the water. Honestly avoid...

So went over to this location On Victoria Day for the open outdoor dinning experience with family and friends. Was not crazy with the idea that as soon as we asked seating for 12 the idea of tipping is mentioned to us quite immediately with the dinning experience implemented in the bill (meaning that… regardless, you are tipping no matter what). Menu at this location is ridiculously limited and overpriced. Ordered couple of cheeseburgers and when my cheeseburger was served was falling apart the second i lifted it. And looking at it, it really looked like a typical cheeseburger cooked up in any backyard. Ordered fries for my family because my son wanted onion rings and the server informed that non was available due to no batter/ lack of preparation? Not quite sure what he was trying to explain. Fries was a bit over cooked, they came out too golden, too crispy. Staff when serving was looking very confused and our server was constantly checking if everything was served looking a bit confused himself most of the times, also worth mentioning that he seemed to get irritated at a certain point. At the end, I been in other similar places and felt the service was right compared to this location. What is preventing me for a one star rate here is due to the outdoorsy music and great weather I had that...

Checked out this place mainly for the open air atmosphere and the harbour waterfront view (which is amazing and free). It should be noted that they have a very intense COVID questionnaire which is required for each person to enter, but once you navigate that you are greeted and seated by very friendly hostess followed up by amazing staff willing to answer questions and take your order. ***** 17% gratuity automatic ***** It's the most expensive priced pizza and fries joint I've ever been in; and while the pizzas chosen were tasty I'm not sure value was worth it. Drinks were another costly for endeavor as what they charge for and serve as a pint of beer is kind of a joke. Oh yeah the view. Ability to people watch the Quay and activities was the best part and such an enjoyable evening out. Then comes the bill.... Yikes!!!! Did I mention the amazing staff? Best part of the experience. Doubt I'd be back in without price changes.
