Website felt very misleading, as it gave the impression it would be more joyous and lively. It says there is a canon that fires, sea shanties being sung and the opportunity for guests to have a hand with the sailing. This all did NOT happen. I'm not sure if by sea shanties they meant loud pop music blasting over large speakers, which is what happened, but that isn't a sea shanty.
In fairness, it was raining, but the extent of the managers safety rules seemed ridiculous to me. The first thing you want to do when going on a huge pirate-like ship is EXPLORE. Instead, you were not allowed to walk up to the bow, the stern (back) or go below deck. Like, what is the point? I knew this because when I tried to walk the side towards the stern for a better photo, I was chastised by the crew to walk back immedietly.
Furthermore, you're pretty much required to sit down the entire time, and the manger made it VERY clear that we weren't even allowed to stand until he said so when disembarking. I've worked on tourist boats for 4+ years, and were were never this strict with our guests; we want them to feel alive and enjoy the experience! Not like we're school students on a field trip, which is exactly what this felt like.
A boating experience is about guest involvement, funny sea puns, deckhand humour and making it TOP priority that everyone on board is having a FUN time, and Tall Ship cruises just didn't do that. There is no involvement in helping raise the sails, quizzing anyone on their boat knowledge or inclusion for the guests to feel like they're really on...
Read moreI was very excited for my first sailing experience and my first experience on vacation in Canada. I loved the boat and the views of the city. But I was disappointed that the motor was really what powered the boat the entire time, so never really got to experience SAILING - which is what it is billed as. It was also really annoying to not hear a word said by the young man on the microphone because none of the speakers were working and none of the crew bothered to explain or even acted troubled by that fact. The crew seemed nice, but interacted only at the beginning of the trip while still waiting to get sails up, and only to ask us what we wanted to eat. I think it is a great idea to use (what appears to be) college kids on the crew, but it would have been nice if, instead of clustering together in groups at either end of the ship looking bored and having their own personal conversations, they had made even a small effort to engage with passengers and possibly even ask if we had any questions or wanted them to point out some of the buildings downtown or things along the shore, etc. it just felt very much like we were sailing on an automated boat with no crew at all and no locals to interact with. I was a bit surprised to be honest. The views were wonderful and the ship is laid out well for passengers, but with one shanty sang before we left harbor, the crew was...

Thank you to the Captain and Crew for such a safe enjoy our ride to all the staff including the gentleman who gave us some history on the ship. This was my second time last time was College graduation gift sail with the family back in 2010 so this time since I love the water and it's my Birthday wish I was happy to return. Highly recommend for local and visitors and was glad they were able to operate due to us being in phase 2 lockdown still at the time. I had forgotten to look them up on Groupon usually there are deals there but the cost was affordable definitely worth the price per adult. Thank you. Happy more sailings this season and thank you all for your hard work and helping us to enjoy a bit of life still during these...
