Wow what can I say.
What a disgrace of a place. This cannot be called a persian restaurant. All the Iranians I know are noble honest people that deliver value through their hard work and efforts.
This place misses the mark badly.
No atmosphere, this is a takeout place charging sit down rates. When you go inside you will be ignored for first 5 to 10 mins as they staff are busy doing everything else but cooking food and serving customers.
When they do end up serving you , you are forced to wait outside. I came back after a reasonably 17 minutes hoping my single skewer of koobideh meal would be ready. The lady looks at me and says you ordered koobideh right? And pulls a skewer from the freezer and places it on grill 🤷🏽
I than come back after another 15 mins outside waiting on their patio as the lady walks out giving everyone waiting for their food, bags that are excessively big for such a small quantity of food. Although the packaging is good quality it is wasteful because they are stingy with the rice and by volume for such a large takeout containor they filled it 25% -35% by volume including the rice, kabob, and tomato. I noticed this as the rice and whole meal shifted to one side leaving more than 50% of the containor bare and empty.
The koobideh was good, I’ve had better at darband restaurant at yorkmills and don mills, for half the price and double the meat, rice quantity.
The tomatoe was quick charred from outside only and raw inside- pepper was a bit better .
They only give you a single skewer and for about $21 dollars with a pop can cola drink - felt a bit of a rip off. Much better Persian food in Toronto and much better value downtown.
The restaurant is a mess with everything spilling out everywhere, I cannot imagine they keep a hygienic standard when vendors, suppliers and cooks and order takers are all squeezing in the small place amidst a lunchtime rush.
Shatter abbas locations in North York are better but also again on the priceier side. Still the number one Persian place I’ve come across interms of quality, quantity, service and atmosphere is DARBAND RESTAURANT, who do it on a true charcoal grill where these guys god knows what they are doing as I saw a lady slap a frozen puck of ground beef and douse it in oil on a flat top….

Read moreThis is hard for me to give Shatter Abbas such low rate. But I have to. I’ve been their customer for years and have sent so many new customers there, but lately, especially my last three visits, that are btw way less frequent, it feels like they don’t even care anymore. I used to love their burgers. Pretty special with great taste. I know it comes there frozen and they grill it, and I like the bun and the condiments. But the patty has become one of the worst in town and has made the experience just horrible. Is it the patty itself? Is it the way they cook it or defrost it? I have no idea. For a burger at this price I expect much much more. Once it was half burnt half undercooked. Come on, if you overcooked the patty, make a new one! This is a pretty expensive burger we are talking about! Don’t wrap it and sell it and you know most of your customers don’t start eating it right away because you’re a take out! Another time, they made me wait for almost an hour. They didn’t tell me they were out of patties and were waiting for delivery; I would have changed my order to something they had. An hour for a burger, and it wasn’t even good. And last night, and it’s gonna be my last for a long time, it was again overcooked and so chewy I was hating myself for eating it. What has happened? New owner? New patty or distributor? Just get your * together or you’re going to lose all your loyal customers. Those are not easily made anymore, but you can lose...
Read moreI've been ordering from this restaurant so many times, and it's always been consistently amazing quality food. The portions are generous, the food is flavourful and delicious, and the staff is so friendly. I even ordered from here for our entire office (250 people) twice and they were both huge hits.
For non Persians: There are two types of Persian food: BBQ and stews. The famous BBQ option is koobideh (ground beef). If you want more flavour (sweet & savoury), go for Torsh (top sirloin). You typically eat kabob with rice and a grilled tomato; and sprinkle some of that Sumac" that comes in a white packet. It adds a mild sour flavour to your dish. There is no "sauce" in Persian food. All the flavours are cooked in the food itself. If you like your food extra flavourful or "saucy", either get extra grilled tomato, or get Kashkeh bademjan (eggplant based) on the side. The combo of Kashkeh bademjan, and Joojeh (grilled chicken) is to die for. As for stews, Gheimeh is one of the most popular and delicious dishes - it has dried limes in it which is so so flavourful. Fesenjoon is made with walnuts and is on the sweet side (slightly sour too). And Ghormeh Sabzi is highly aromatic and is more savoury, also super delicious.
All of these options are delicious at Shatter Abbas. If this is your first time trying Persian food, go for Platter 1. It has some of the best options and will feed for at least 4...
