I don’t wish to be harsh on The Goodman. I really want to love it. It’s by the water, it’s a pub. There’s a theatre upstairs where you can watch theatre performances! The food is decent. Both the Cajun Chicken Club and the Southern Fried Chicken Sandwich are quite good. They are good portions and not only look good but are very flavourful. Would definitely recommend. For $29 we had the Sous Vide Brisket. Not cheap but it is tasty. The presentation is somewhat lacking for the price. I feel It just needed something to make it pop more. It tasted good and the chimichurri sauce/salsa was good but it wasn’t the best brisket I’ve had. Likewise the Smash burger really seems like it could be renamed the Flat burger. Nothing that makes it stand out. Not bad but not great. The side Caesar salad was mediocre and sparse. I believe the calamari and sweet potato fries were quite good. And it’s nice that they offer gluten-sensitive options. Parts of the restaurant have better ambiance than others. The corner where I was somewhat plain. Closer to the bar and past the bar toward the north end of the restaurant is cozier. Pretty certain things pick up when the outdoor patio opens up. Really, you won’t be disappointed to stop here for a quick bite and a brew. Just make sure you get there before 10pm when everyone goes to sleep and the kitchen begins to close. Honestly this is the only waterfront community that becomes a ghost town by 10. Maybe it’s because parking is ridiculously expensive. They need to work something out with the city to keep these businesses afloat. It’s too bad there isn’t an effort to make it more vibrant. If any pub ever needed live music… it’s this one. Perhaps this is on the horizon…? Definitely want to inject more life into the sleepy waterfront community. And why there isn’t a joint marketing/discount between the theatre/parking and the restaurant is puzzling. I know that I will continue to go to The Goodman to support it. The servers were friendly and the restaurant has a lot of potential. Bottom line… despite any criticism the restaurant does have a lot of options and quite a good amount of seating and views of the water. It’s more quaint in the evening. Just wish it was...
Read moreI love this restaurant because of its location but the service is a hit or miss. I really appreciate it if the server introduces his/ her name to establish good rapport with us clients, but our server didnt do that yesterday. I feel like this is customer service 101 (managers, please remind the staff to do this!). My girlfriends and I had lunch here and there were less than 3 groups of people inside the restaurant. Our server was polite and nice although I wish she had visited our table more than twice to check in on us (because we have a huge appetite, we can order more and devour food!).
Food and drinks talk now. I don’t have complaints with their food. We love their masala calamari so this is always a safe, shareable platter to have with friends. I tried their buffalo cauliflower and it tasted good! It reminded me of St. louis’s cauliflower bites. My girlfriend had a burger and her only concern is that the patty was so thin. She said she liked how it tasted so as long as she’s happy, I am too. For the drinks, we ordered a pitcher of sangria. Similar to the other reviewers’ input, sometimes the sangria is watered down, sometimes it is perfectly made, sometimes it is filled with ice cubes and a bunch of berries. The last time I went here last month, we were able to have at least 2 glasses of sangria each. This time, just 1 glass of sangria each for a party of 3. A pitcher of sangria costs $26. You are better off ordering a cocktail for yourself, especially the strawberry daquiri! Now the mimosa! The mimosa wasn’t the best! I regret ordering it for $9.50 per glass! Girlfriend said it was warm to drink. I was okay with it but the taste wasnt the best.
This restaurant will always have a special place in my heart because precovid times I had a lot of fun here during company parties. I will still be around but I hope I will have an excellent customer service next time. This really influences the dynamics and satisfaction patrons will have during their stay. Anyways, I’d recommend this fabulous restaurant to anyone who’d like to have a good time with friends and see the water right in...
Read moreI'm in Toronto on vacation, and a few locals recommended The Goodman. Needless to say, I was not disappointed! The place had a comfortable and relaxed ambience. The food was wonderful (I'd absolutely recommend the chipotle chicken tacos and the wings for apps), and the service was even better!
Even though the place was slammed, my wait time to be seated wasn't overly long, and service was quick once I was seated. The person that served my table greeted me with a smile, introducing herself as Amena, the General Manager of The Goodman (always a good sign when the GM is willing to hit the floor to help staff during rush periods). Her personality was warm, friendly, and inviting, perfectly pairing with the atmosphere of the restaurant.
I couldn't decide on an entrée, so I asked Amena what she would recommend. She spoke very highly of the pub green salad, so I decided to go with her suggestion (though I opted to add chicken). It was one of the best salads I've eaten in recent memory, and would definitely recommend it to anyone that is trying to eat healthy, or just enjoys a good salad.
I finished my meal off with a tiramisu, and it was about what you'd expect from the famed dessert; nothing overly special, but not bad by any means. Amena checked back frequently during my visit, making sure that I was enjoying my experience and the food, making sure to ask if there was anything that I needed, the signs of top-notch service!
I would 100% recommend The Goodman to anyone visiting Toronto, looking for a great place to eat. Friendly and memorable service, great food, timely service (seated and served in a timely fashion, food didn't take too long), and wonderful staff! Amena especially made this a memorable experience, and I will definitely be back before my...
