Wanted to see my friends later that day, however, work had me scheduled for a shorter stay, and so we settled for Breakfast. My friend suggested this place close by the hotel, which was not bad of a walk, despite the freezing weather.
I arrived a bit before 7AM, and they were still setting up for the morning; in their defence, I was the only one waiting to be seated. Thankfully, the staff let me in to settle down, as well as select a table. Though the restaurant may seem small on the outside, it is quite spacious on the inside.
This Family Restaurant has a lot of variety, and I was impressed by the amount of Vegan options available. While I am not a Vegan myself, I am always curious to know how restaurants execute a Vegan Dish, and so I ordered myself the Vegan Scramble with Avocado.
My friends went with more traditional Breakfast options, including Eggs and Bacon (though theirs looked quite good). The dish sizes were quite big, and found myself enjoying my meal very much. If there is one thing about Vegan Meals that go across all of the ones I've had, it's that they're not filling, which was what I was expecting. I'm not saying that the dish was bad, it was quite appetizing, and it leaves more room for the next meal you anticipate.
I believe the staff were all family, and the woman that served us is the daughter(?) Either way, a lovely young lady, basically running the front line while everyone else is preparing for the day.
A cute little restaurant close by the water, and a great way to catch up with friends who are willing to have breakfast at 7AM or...
Read moreThe Miso soup is fabulous! Possibly the best miso soup i have ever had. I would go back for that alone. The service is good, the bathrooms are clean. The menu cover is beautiful.
Now why did i take 2 stars off? The seaweed salad seemed super small for the 4.95. I understand that rent in this location is pricey, but i expect either the quality or the quantity of the item to match the price point.
Also i understand that it is common practice in Toronto for restaurants to be marketed as "Japanese" but owned by other groups. And i understand that oncr you own a restaurant of any kind, you may want to add your own twist, flavour, and culture into it.
However, i also think food is one of the easiest and most accessible ways to learn a new / different culture. Although the Korean inspired items are the menu are delicious, they probably should be clearly separated from the Japanese items. I understand the difference between the two. However someone from a smaller community who is visiting may have never had any exposure to Japanese or Korean food. This may stop here, try a korean item and assume it is Korean. They may leave feeling more cultured or expect korean dishes at other Japanese...
Read moreWent there with husband, ordered robster roll and spider roll along with dynamite role. i know price is not high but should never save core ingredients. three different rolls tasted exactly same. ordered small “shirimp“ tempura but gave us two small shrimps along with under cooked fried veges. one of customer asked for no cucumber due to allergy. waiter asked if its “extreme“ if so they will refuse to make rolls for her, hah!. I am a cook my self. all you have to do is just clean the knife and use seperate board and prepare food without allergetic ingredients. you dont refuse service just because your lazy about it. educate your waiter. also.. the bar... clean your hands every time you touch something that is other than food.. you dont use microwave and touch dusty things than come back with uncleaned hand to make foods that are based on raw ingredients. I dont know... not going back ever. btw Gonoe located near yonge and clark was awsome and very clean/professional. what a shame for restaurant...
