There are places that serve food - and then there are places that serve moments. Tono at the W Toronto is one of those rare gems where every detail feels alive with intention, every sound and scent softly choreographed to draw you in. But the true beauty of Tono isn’t just in its design or its dishes, it lives in its people. Elnur, he carries a quiet brilliance that shapes the entire experience. His presence is steady yet inspiring the kind of leadership that doesn’t need to be announced, only felt. Under his care, the restaurant moves like a symphony — smooth, confident, and full of soul. And then there’s Zhaniya, radiant, graceful, and effortlessly genuine. The way she connects with guests turns service into something almost poetic. She doesn’t just deliver plates. She delivers warmth, sincerity, and joy the kind that lingers long after the last sip and final bite. Tono is more than a restaurant. It’s a feeling of being seen, welcomed, and cared for by people who pour their hearts into what they do. Elnur and Zhaniya are the heartbeat of that feeling.

Had a great dinner at TONO! The food and flavours were excellent, although some menu items are on the pricier side. On that note, their still and sparkling water is $12 per bottle, which they don't tell you, so mention you want tap if you're not interested. Highlights: 1. French bean Tempura ($16) 2. Mushroom Risotto ($22) 3. Mar y Tierra roll ($34) 4. Handorll/Taco style Temaki ($8-12) Service was fantastic - friendly and efficient. Natasha took care of us and we had a great time. We had one mishap where we informed Natasha that we were lookin for non-spicy menu items for our 4 year old and she didn't realize that the avocado and cucumber temaki tacos contained wasabi (not mentioned on the menu). Our son had a scare when he bit into the wasabi but was alright. Natasha apologized profusely (it was her first dinner shift) and arranged for the kitchen to remake the food, removed the item from the bill, and gave us a free dessert item. We really appreciated Natasha's kindness and warmth, and her actions to make things right. Overall, we will be back :)

I ordered the Tono Combo for $46 and my partner ordered Neikki Lunch set for $49. The Tono combo was very standard, with the first two courses being a miso soup and house salad, which are usually complimentary in most Japanese restaurants, not the entire two courses. The third course was a SUSHI & SASHIMI PLATTER, which i enjoyed - the presentation was top notch - but I was still hungry after it. By comparison, the first two courses of my partner's deal were MIXED CEVICHE (assorted fish, aji coconut leche de tigre) and CHICKEN ROBATA (aji den miso, roasted corn) which were more fulfilling. The service was pretty slow even though it wasn't busy, but I was pleased to see they paid attention to the note in the reservation and surprised my partner with a dessert for his birthday, as well as seating us at a window table as requested. The venue is really nice and the views are great, there's a good atmosphere. I loved my cocktail - Kyoto Groove (Gin, Yuzu Sake, Ginger Liqueur, Matcha, Ginger, Lime) for $25.

Date night win! We checked out TONO by Akira Back at the W in Yorkville, and it definitely lived up to the hype. First off, stunning space. The decor is sleek and modern but still warm, and we lucked out with a beautiful table right in front of the rooftop terrace doors, with a view of the city that added the perfect vibe to the evening.

Service was excellent, attentive without being overbearing, and everything flowed smoothly throughout the night. Now, let’s talk food: absolutely delicious across the board. The mixed ceviche was a standout, the leche de tigre had just the right consistency and a bold, citrusy flavor that hit all the right notes. We also had the Peruvian choclo (loved the texture), the Corazon Skewer (tender, flavorful), Charred Octopus (beautifully cooked), and the Maki Picchu roll which balanced richness and spice really well.

Only minor note, the music selection felt a bit all over the place, ranging from chicha (Peruvian psychedelic cumbia) to older Latin American tracks to modern lounge. That said, the volume was perfect, low enough to keep a comfortable conversation going, and our cozy sofa and table setup made it easy to settle in and enjoy the evening.

Highly recommend for a chic night out with great food and city views. Will...
