Ordered delivery. The per person cost was cost of half duck + delivery fees, etc., divided by 2. Ordered half duck, enough for two meals for me. Not the best Peking duck I've had, but good enough. Skin crisp, meat tender. Have had lighter tasting, crisper skin, but as I said, this is good enough. Delivery meticulously planned. Pancakes paper thin, each separated by non-stick steam paper in a sealed bag, arrived warm and not dried out. They do not tear/fall apart. Enough pancakes, cucumber and spring onions and sauce for half duck so I did not have to order extra. Cucumber and spring onions fresh, very nicely sliced. Usually, cucumbers and spring onions more finely sliced, but this is quite acceptable. Each item carefully packed in leak proof containers. Arrived warm. Duck expertly sliced. Usually, restaurants will slice the skin and meat separately, but XiHe sliced them together. Our family actually prefers it this way. Order whole duck, they give you carcass -- makes wonderful congee. I shall use the duck carcass to make roast duck congee. Very impressed with the fact that the duck carcass is returned to delivery diner when whole duck is ordered. In restaurant, options would have been offered to cook the carcass, most commonly, lettuce wrapped diced duck meat. Not so impressed: amount of spring onions and cucumber same for half duck as for whole duck. One package of pancakes for half duck and whole duck. Could not tell if package is same size for whole and half duck -- no weight on package; my guess is same size. This means you have to order extra pancakes: $7.79. Definitely need extra cucumbers and spring onions etc.: $9.09. That package comes with extra sauce and hawthorn strips. Total extras: $16.88. Two half ducks, no extras: $93.32 Whole duck + extras: $99.54 Better deal is order two half ducks if you want a whole duck except you don't get the carcass. Something odd: unpleasant stale oil smell not reflected in taste of food both times. EDIT: If you order late -- 8.30pm or later, the duck is not as expertly sliced. If you order a whole duck, there is more meat left on the carcass. That's fine if you are like me and use it to make congee, but if you discard it, there is more...
Read moreHave been wanting to try this place for a while, and I want to preface this by the fact that this was an Uber Eats order for me.
I ordered a 1/4 duck + spicy noodle combo, it came with the 1/4 duck (although tbh, portion wise it seemed more like 1/8 duck - not a big issue, just for those who need to figure out how much to order), scallions and cucumber toppings, sauce, the wrappings, spicy noodle, a drink, and 3 small pieces of desert.
The duck was ok. Delivery was ~30 min, but the skin was still crispy. Unfortunately, I found the meat and the skin quite lacking in flavour, but the sauce was delicious, and was able to make up for that deficit. This issue really only significantly manifests itself when I ate it without sauce with the noodles.
The noodles I think could be buldak noodles? The noodles look like buldak, it smells like buldak, tastes like not spicy buldak, but the ramyeon sauce did not look like buldak - it was a lot more flowy / oily than buldak sauce.
The desert was some kind of 山楂糕? it was 3 pieces and not too sweet, I liked it.
The last thing I want to add is that they have gorgeous packaging. I don’t usually put this as a plus, but it came in a temperature-keeping bag, and the containers were all of really good quality (except the duck and the desert - those were why you can expect from normal take out).
Having paid 25$ for this, I think it was worth the price. I think the most unfortunate issue with the store is that there isn’t actually any sit down space, meaning you’re forced to do take out, and in turn, degrading how good the food could actually be. Nothing they can do about this unless they expand to a bigger location,...
Read moreDecent food but waited over an hour for my food despite pre-ordering 1hr in advance. Food is not worth a 1+ hour wait especially when you can others this in other Chinese restaurants. They were so behind on their orders they shouldn't of accepted new orders. If they knew they were so behind they should of offered a refund but instead they promised 30min wait that turned into another 20min wait that became another 30min. I was chatting with a customer who also waiting for over an hour, her pick up time was 7pm, my time was 6:45. Strangely they served her first and I had to wait 20min for the next duck. They clearly don't respect pick up times just who's at the door.
When you go in they don't even recognize your existence, you have to flag them down despite being a small store front and the front staff just standing there (they're just wait for the kitchen to slowly make the food). When you talk to them they just tell to wait and ignore you after. This happened to multiple people who were waiting for food and even to the delivery service people.
Everytime I asked when it will be ready they said they're making sure the skin is crispy. However, when we ate it it wasn't crispy as one would expect. It is decent for a takeout roasted duck but probably better off going to a restaurant where you are served in a timely manner with the same flavour and crisper skin for the same price (and probablybetter deal since you get two dishes from a Peaking duck in...
