I have visited blackball Richmond many times and I have gone to blackball in Taiwan as well. I took my partner there because I wanted to introduce them to Taiwanās shaved ice and greatly disappointed and felt frustrated after the experience.
When we ordered we were told there are two types of mango shaved ice. One with milk flavored shaved ice and one with mango. When I asked about the product we were told they are made with fresh mangos on the top with the shaved ice. The only difference between the two products were flavor of the shaved ice. We decided to go with mango since we wanted to eat mango so why not go all in.
When the ordered arrived, it was pineapple topped with one scoop pineapple sorbet, one scoop of vanilla ice cream, some odd pearl looking thing but wasnāt pearls and mango flavored shaved ice. When I asked the staff does their mango shaved ice not have any mangoes? The reply was āonly the milky flavored one has, this is just mango flavored ice!ā Blackball is from Taiwan and being Taiwanese I donāt think itās uncommon to have fresh mango on mango shaved ice so I never anticipated this would happen. The product name doesnāt stats in Chinese or English that the mango flavored one doesnāt have mango topping. When the staff explained it, she didnāt mention it, we were told the only difference was the flavor of the ice not the toppings. Also we were pointed to a photo that has fresh mango on milky flavor shaved ice as reference to how the shaved ice would look.
I felt I was misguided and had paid for a product I didnāt want. The price is also not cheap 18 dollars for about 8 pieces of small pineapple slices 2 scoops of ice cream and shaved ice.
The overall atmosphere felt rushed, staff didnāt really care enough to explain what exactly is in the product. The shaved ice was mediocre, overall experience felt poor. Completely different than how I felt in Richmond and Taiwan. I was extremely frustrated as this was my partnerās first experience with...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreItās great we could find this Taiwanese dessert place in East Vancouver. The restaurant has a decent size that they got some tables and chairs with dividers, so customers can still sit and eat desserts during covid.
If you see the menus I posted here, the restaurant has actually got more menus. It means they got so many different beverages and desserts.
My husband and I tried their blackball lemon aiyu jelly. Itās about $10 a dish. It was affordable. Both of us could share one dish. Of course we could order more ingredients or other dishes. Maybe next time.
The restaurant also sells Castellar cheese tarts! I saw customers bought them and carried them on Kingsway. I realized they bought them from Blackball Taiwanese Desserts.
I would love to come back and try other beverages and desserts. It has branches in other cities, so itās quite convenient and try their food and beverages at any time. They open till 10pm or 11pm depending...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI'm honestly appalled by the service we received at this restaurant. It's hard to believe that we were the only customers there, yet they managed to make us wait for more than 20 minutes just to get our shareable dessert bowl. And to top it off, when it finally arrived, it was lukewarm and far from fresh. The dessert was very expensive and its quality does not justify it's steep price.
The lack of care from the staff was evident when they left our completed bowl sitting on the counter, collecting melted ice. It was only until we stood up and asked when it would be done, after waiting for a frustrating 20 minutes from ordering, that they responded with a dismissive tone. The whole experience left us feeling utterly let down and dissatisfied.
I genuinely recommend avoiding this place and spending your money elsewhere, where you'll be treated with the respect and quality service...
