Blue Parrot Coffee — Restaurant in Vancouver

Blue Parrot Coffee has two locations. There is one at Granville Island and another one inside Hillcrest Community Centre. I had lunch with a friend at the one inside Hillcrest Community Centre.

The area is small with just a few tables for dining, and it's a simple setup.but there are some surprisingly good eats at this coffee shop! Who would have thought that one could eat so well from a community centre coffee shop?

I'm a Mac & Cheese girl at heart, and while I often try to encourage our daughter to try new things, this was my chance to indulge in a simple bowl of Mac & Cheese! Can't remember the last time I ordered a bowl of plain old Mac & Cheese for myself. This was such a treat for me!

The Blueberry Cheesecake was quite dense and heavy. We weren't too fond of this item.

The Mango Mousse cake on the other hand, was very impressive. I was quite surprised with how intense the Mango flavor was in this cake. The Mango flavor really popped out at us! Two thumbs up to Blue Parrot Coffee's Mango Mousse Cake!

They sell a good selection of other items, including ice cream! They also offer free food for people short on cash. It looks like the free food would be "Day old" items, but probably best to inquire with them about it. If you're in the area and looking for a quick, casual and tasty meal, Blue Parrot Coffee is definitely worth a try!

Update: So I kept getting Google Maps notifications inducing me to review Blue Parrot Coffee for whatever reason. Like it really wanted me to review this place. It tells me I'm a top café reviewer or something. So I reviewed it as 3 stars as a sort of snap assessment, just quickly comparing it in my head to other cafés around town. I didn't mean any ill will, it's just a personal preference. Anyways, the owner has kindly asked me to share my concerns to justify my ranking. They even offered donating to charity. This isn't necessary Alex, it's okay, I didn't really mean the 3 star ranking, I was just trying to get the notifications to stop. I hope you understand. It was an impulse rating, frankly based on my memory of the chaos of the location and the number of people in that tiny area more than anything else. So, let me focus on the positives of Blue Parrot Coffee instead:

They have a great selection of food. However, my experience was not the best. I ordered the classic grilled cheese and the turkey grilled cheese and it took the lady 15 minutes to prepare the order. The few people who ordered after me all got their food before me (possibly because they ordered food that did not require as much prep). Fifteen minutes for 2 grilled cheese sandwiches is definitely too long. The lady also was taking her time, I don't think intentionally but I think because she was trying to remember what to put in the sandwiches. When I finally received my order, I was a little confused and saw three sandwiches. One was the grilled cheese, one was the turkey grilled cheese, and the other was like the turkey grilled cheese but without the turkey. I also realized that I was charged for the 3 sandwiches when I only ordered 2... I had also specifically asked for no swiss cheese as on the menu it says the sandwiches come with swiss and cheddar but of course, the sandwiches had to swiss cheese. 🙄 I may give this place a try next time, but only if it is another...
