Downtown Sushi Bar — Restaurant in Vancouver

I really wanted to like this place. I mean, where else can you get sushi at close to midnight or even a little later on weekends? The interior of the restaurant is ok and I liked people-watching while waiting for my food, but the wait was the problem. We came in at the same time as two other tables and after we placed our order, four other tables were seated. All of the tables that came in at the same time we did received their food AND paid their bills, as did three of the tables that came in after us. We waited a very long time for our food and were stewing in our seats about it, as was another couple who came in after us and didn’t get their food. I looked at the other tables to see what they had ordered, thinking maybe it was because of something we ordered but most of the tables ordered sushi just like we did. Although tempted to just get up and walk out, where else would we get sushi this late, let alone any other food? We finally got our food at close to closing time with not a word from the waitress, no apology or thank you or anything. Unacceptable. Oh yeah, the food was just ok. Ordered delivery through UberEats, Downtown Sushi Bar has decent pricing and their food was delicious. We had Prawn Tempura, Chicken Karaage, Katsu Donburi, and Ebi Mayo. Four different types of deep fried coatings, all arrived still crispy and crunchy.

Chicken Karaage at this restaurant is actually deep fried chicken wings, not meat chunks like other restaurants. It was not what I expected but still good nevertheless.

Another surprise was Katsu Donburi. There is vermicelli on top of the rice. I love noodle so this is a welcomed addition.

The meal has satisfied my craving for Japanese deep fried food. Afterward, I found out from the restaurant's website that they have their own app for ordering takeout or delivery, and you could get a free drink ordering through the app. Unlike UberEats, their own app and website have photos for every food item, which would be helpful when deciding what to pick. I’ve been coming here for a couple years now and have loved it so much but last night was the last time ; there’s certain things I don’t order for strict dietary reasons but yesterday I ordered veggie spring rolls and I watched him write it down on a piece of paper on the table but for whatever reason we got pork rolls, I almost bit down into it until I realized it wasn’t the same. It took the waiter about 10 minutes to come over and it’s not a very big restaurant. Then my veggie box came and it was missing something in my sushi that I did really want and I paid for it so I asked if he could get it switched to what it was supposed to be and he took a plate and started picking the sushi off my plate in front of me. I then just asked him to take my plate away because it was uncomfortable 😣. Everything was super uncomfortable at dinner.
