Alright, gather 'round foodies, because I've just returned from a flavour fiesta at the Momo Factory on Davie Street, Vancouver, on February 20th, 2025! Picture this: six hungry souls, including yours truly and my three delightful daughters, ready to dive headfirst into a Nepali culinary adventure.
First up, the star of the show, the Momo Platter. Oh. My. Goodness. Imagine plump little dumplings, each a tiny parcel of joy, filled with various delectable things. We had a rainbow of flavours, from juicy chicken to savory veggie, and each bite was like a warm hug for your tastebuds. They were perfectly steamed, with a delicate chew, and those dipping sauces? Forget about it! I was practically licking the bowls clean.
Next, we tackled the Chow Mein with Prawns. Now, I've had my fair share of chow mein, but this was on another level. The noodles were cooked to perfection, with a slight char that added a smoky depth. The prawns were succulent and plentiful, and the whole dish was bursting with fresh vegetables. It wasn't your typical oily, heavy chow mein; it was light, vibrant, and utterly addictive. My daughters were fighting over the last prawn!
Then came the BBQ Pork Buns. These fluffy little clouds of happiness were a sweet and savory dream. The pork filling was tender, sticky, and packed with flavour, and the buns themselves were soft and pillowy. They were the perfect little hand-held bites of comfort, and disappeared from the table in record time.
Now, let's talk about the Crispy Honey Chili Garlic with Chicken. This dish was a symphony of textures and tastes. The chicken was crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and coated in a sticky, sweet, and slightly spicy sauce. It was the perfect balance of sweet, heat, and savory, and had us all reaching for more. I think my youngest daughter may have tried to steal a second helping when no one was looking.
And for the adventurous eaters among us, the Nepali Goat. This dish was a revelation! The goat was slow-cooked to perfection, resulting in tender, melt-in-your-mouth meat that was infused with rich, aromatic spices. It was a complex and satisfying dish, with a depth of flavour that lingered long after the last bite. It was a true testament to the skill of the chefs.
Of course, no meal is complete without dessert, and the Momo Factory did not disappoint. We sampled a few of their sweet treats, each one a delightful ending to our culinary journey. They were light and refreshing, the perfect palate cleansers.
Throughout the entire meal, the service was impeccable. The staff were friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive, without being intrusive. They were happy to answer our questions and offer recommendations, making us feel right at home. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, perfect for a family gathering or a casual dinner with friends.
In short, the Momo Factory on Davie Street is a must-try for anyone looking for authentic and delicious Nepali cuisine. The food was exceptional, the service was top-notch, and the overall experience was truly memorable. I can't wait to go back and explore more of their menu. If you are looking for a place to share a family style meal with great service and amazing food,...
Read moreI ordered the Beef in Oyster Sauce from here and I am sorry to say it was one of the worst meals I have ever had. On the picture on their menu, the Beef in Oyster Sauce was glossy and rich. The sauce looked brown and thick and delicious. There was copious amounts of beef and the dish looked well balanced. What I got instead was one of the worst, most bland dishes I've ever had. I was so angry when I tasted it that I could barely finish half of it. The beef was GREY and there was absolutely no hint, to my tastebuds, that there was ANY oyster sauce. I could not taste Oyster sauce, nor did I see any. There was none of that thick, glossy brown sauce that I saw in their picture. It looked like beef that had been pan-fried with a bit of oil. It had NO taste and no hint of any sauce anywhere. On top of this, the dish was supposed to be BEEF. I spooned myself a portion and realized that my plate was covered in snap peas, so I dug out some beef from the container and then turned back to look at what was left, and found myself looking at a plate of snap peas with a few token pieces of beef thrown in. When I order a BEEF dish, I expect beef to be the star of the show, with a few vegetables on the side for balance. I do not expect to get a dish which is 60% vegetables and 40% beef (and that is probably being generous). On top of which, the beef dish alone cost $13.99 without the rice. Not cheap! Do the chefs or owners think we are stupid? Do they think we can't see what we are eating? Do they think we can't taste that there is no (or little oyster sauce?). I had to cover the dish with soy sauce and sesame oil and chili oil just to give it a little flavor as it was SO BLAND. Even then it was highly unpalatable, like eating a whole bunch of snap peas with a few bits of beef thrown in. I hoped to make 2 meals out of it, but after putting all the beef on my plate the first time, I am left with a container of mostly very bland snap peas. I don't expect the food to be amazing. If it was just decent I would happily go back, but to see a picture of glossy, rich-looking beef covered in thick brown oyster sauce and get this watery veggie dish with beef on the side... I will simply never eat here again. It's so short-sighted. Do they think we are stupid and can't see all this? They are saving dollars on the dishes, but losing a fortune in the long run as people like myself will not come back if they eat poor food. In the long run, the only way to have success is to make the food so good that people come back. Hiring good chefs who care about what they are doing is vital to any restaurant. I hope they realize that before it's too late. I was hoping to become a regular customer as I love Chinese food, but as this is one of the worst Chinese meals I've ever had, I will have to pass. I rarely write reviews but was so angry by the tasteless, watery dish I got, especially when it looked nothing like their pictures, that I had to. I haven't tasted any other dishes, so they may be better, but based on my dish alone, I would not recommend this...
Read moreWe were looking for another new and fresh establishment to try out during our visit to Vancouver BC. We noticed the new restaurant in front of the hotel we are staying. so we gave it try.
First impression, the restaurant is very welcoming, clean and elegant. staffs are dressed professional and greeted us immediately.
The menu is very extensive and lot of options from snacks (appetizers) to dessert. I lost count but I think there are 7 menus for each type of meat. Making the decision was hard as all looks great. There are something for everyone. We took our time and the staffs are more than helpful and give us time to decide.
We landed on Salt and pepper wings, Pork with green beans, seafood wonton soup, Singapore vermicelli, Ginger beef, egg tofu, and half order of the roasted duck. The food came hot, fresh and aromatic. It would be a several page long review but to save time, all of them well exceeded our expectations in presentation and tastes. A few key highlights are the roasted duck has a wonderful thin, crispy skin and succulent meat. Green bean were perfectly cooked. Ginger beef has a citrusy, aromatic sauce that just satisfied every taste bud, and a great flavor of the wonton soup is a must have for any great Chinese restaurant.
Amanda the owner and the wonderful staffs made our dinner experience delightful while we enjoyed our coconut, mango pudding and fried mochi durian desserts. I found out they are part of the Neptune restaurants group and each one have unique cuisine and flavor catered to the local market. This location is only about 4 months old when we visited. Amanda informed me they will continue to refine their dishes as they continue to serve more customers. They do have many authentic dishes available for those that so desired.
Since we missed Dim Sum hours, we will try to be back to get a taste of...
