I absolutely loved the food and atmosphere here. So far I've tried two items off the menu.
The first was the Pork Schnitzel from their seasonal menu. I was skeptical when ordering and didn't have high expectations but when the food was brought to the table, I was instantly filled with satisfaction upon seeing my dish, knowing I had made the right selection.
The first thing I noticed and loved was what a full meal this was. I hadn't eaten all day and was quite hungry so to see two pork schnitzels, house breaded and fried golden brown on a glorious heap of creamy mashed potatoes with plenty of perfectly al dente green beans, carrots and zucchini (I believe), coated lightly in butter with a hint of garlic, I was ecstatic.
The first few bites were heavenly. Beef gravy covered the schnitzel and mashed potatoes just perfectly, leaving enough room for the individual flavours of each component to swell together on your tastebuds. The mashed potatoes were cooked to perfection in both consistency, texture and flavour. The schnitzel (which is breaded in-house by the way), was full of flavour and fried perfectly. Some of the best I've ever had. Veggies were great. I was amazed they were able to get the right firmness for the carrots, green beans and zucchini, as these all have varying cooking times before they're al dente.
All in all, I highly recommend this dish to any other schnitzel lovers out there. I guarantee you won't be disappointed. Oh and one more thing, if you're super hungry going in, you'll have to adjust your belt after finishing as the portion size for the price, can't be beat.
The second item I tried from the menu was their Belfast Bacon Cheddar Burger. I am a huge burger lover and am on an ongoing quest to find the best burger. After the countless burgers I've tried I have yet to find a 10/10 however this one came close as a 9/10 for me.
The three main components I judge burgers on are patty, bun and sauce. Their 6oz house-made prime rib patty for this burger was perhaps the best seasoned burger patty I've ever had. The patty was bursting with flavour. Juicy but not greasy. 6oz+ patties tend to be a bit much for me as it really feels like there's just a beef overload however, I didn't get that sensation while enjoying this burger. The presentation of the burger was great. You could tell it was made with the love. Shredded iceberg lettuce on the base (my favourite lettuce for burgers), with fresh tomato and red onion to complete. The roasted garlic aioli was some of the best I've ever had and although I'm not typically a fan of the brioche bun (wayyyy too overdone. Seriously everybody does brioche), it was one of the better brioche buns I've had. The bacon was crisp and smokey and the aged cheddar was delightful. Everything worked together to create perhaps the most enjoyable burger I've had this far in my life.
For the side I ordered the Beer Battered Parmesan Truffle Fries and honestly I wished I hadn't...
because I couldn't stop eating them.
Fries are boring and are a dime a dozen. These ones though really set themselves apart from the rest. Perfectly crisp from the beer batter and flavourful, fried golden brown. The truffle aioli served with these fries is beyond delicious. I literally had to force myself to stop eating so I could regain my composure instead of shovelling fries into my mouth like these were the last ones on earth.
All in all, this place was a huge win for me. I'm looking forward to returning again and...

The meat on the Ploughman's board was quite good and plentiful, but the bread tasted like cheap grocery store buns. Tiny wedges of cheese and a little bit of pickled veg. Could use a little balancing.
My friend had the scallops as an appetizer and a steak and prawns for main. The seared jumbo scallops, while tasty, were ridiculously overpriced. At $14 they gave two scallops with a bit of pork belly on top. Steak and prawns were otherwise quite good but also overpriced.
I myself had dry ribs and the steak sandwich. Dry ribs were tasty and reasonably priced. Steak sandwich came with a small salad and daily soup- the 'sandwich' itself was a piece of disappointing, tough meat on a single small slice of baguette despite asking for medium rare. Would probably be better described as small steak with some sides and a slice of bread. Caesar salad was good but the wedding soup was disappointing. While the broth itself was quite nice the meatballs were inedible. Very dry, bland and almost powdery- overcooked or improperly stored during or prior to service.
To sum up the food- it's hit or miss. Not terrible, but not particularly good either and altogether overpriced. We did eat here on a Friday night though so while the kitchen got everyone's food out in a very timely fashion I can't help but wonder if that's why the food quality suffered. While I have no problem with paying higher prices for good food, it absolutely needs to be good. You cannot charge expensive prices and serve mediocre, inconsistent food.
The restaurant itself has a nice welcoming atmosphere and the staff are friendly, if a bit hurried. We liked the decor the layout was exceedingly cramped. I've worked both front and back of house before so I understand the desire to have as many seats as possible to maximize profit, but it gets to a point where you feel like you're mashed right up against your neighbours and it ends up being uncomfortable. Staff have to zip around and squeeze by tables while laden with trays and dishes.
I live about a minute away from Dublin Crossing and enjoy eating out, but unless the food quality improves so that it's worth the prices they're charging I don't think I'm going to be back. It's a shame because the area could really use a good sit down restaurant with quality food and I was really hoping this...
Read moreI have been to this pub regularly over the last 18months. I always enjoy going here because the decor is warm and homely and it’s a great spot for larger groups.
They seem to have a high turnover in staff and I can sense a bit of a hostile atmosphere between them. When everyone is new and learning the older staff seem to be frustrated and snappy.
Last night (NYE), my friends and I - all regulars - went down just before the countdown. We settled in, ordered a few rounds of drinks and had a great night. Our bartender was a lovely guy from Galway,Ireland who may have been new as I’ve never seen him there before. When it came time to leave and pay, there was some minor confusion with our bills. This was no issue for us and we were happy to help and be patient while it was being figured out.
However, in the middle of the confusion the bar manager(I think) came over and was extremely snappy with our bartender and started aggressively questioning what he was doing right in front of our table.
When the bar closed and everyone was finishing up their drinks to go home, the bar manager again came over to our table. He started collecting glasses and grabbed the glass I was drinking from to clear away. I assumed it was a mistake and politely asked him to leave the glass as I was not finished. He said I needed to “drink it now then” because the bar was now closed and stood next to me with his hand out for the glass as he waited for me to finish my drink. Under pressure, I just took a big gulp and handed him the glass.
I’m aware it’s New Year’s Eve and you want to go home but that was equally embarrassing and rude. As regular patrons who spend a lot of money in that bar, it’s a shame the lack of respect and hospitality that was displayed. Not only for us but for your own staff...
