Rarely is the occasion where one walks into an establishment and both patrons and employees have genuine smiles. On this particular encounter, it was experienced as a solo diner, and a first timer to this location (although I’d experienced Haidilao, and an abundance of hotpot elsewhere, including in China). I was kindly guided through the menu selection, encouraged to register for the Haidilao membership (where diners can earn redeemable rewards and additional savings). There was a brief moment where we came up against some registration issues (with the verification code not being accepted, but it transpired that this was likely to do with special characters in the password). Even as a solo diner, all the passing waiters and waitresses acknowledged my presence (a key detail which is often missed in comparative establishments), and soon after, a companion (the “Hi” mascot), was soon brought to the table, much to my pleasure and the joy of many of the children (and adults!) of families who were passing by to their tables. The hotpot, is conveniently divided into 4 segments, allowing patrons to choose up to 4 or double down on their favourite broths. For this assessment, the pork bone broth and pork bone/chicken were chosen as base flavours. The food was to exacting standards of Haidilao’s global reputation, with each bite seemingly more favourable as the broth marinated. A nice gesture of the server was to offer a small bowl to taste the soup as it warmed up ready for the dipping ceremony. To top it all off, an ice-cream (a local staple, called Chapman’s was free), the perfect ending to a case of overindulging to help the stomach settle. 10/10 and next time I’ll be sure to bring more friends.

First time here, wife says reminds her of our experience in Taipei 101 Din Tai Fung, aka off to a great start! We ordered a bunch of things (see pic), no beef…no particular reason, just happened that way Taste 1/1* Server recommendations were not particularly great Pork bone soup base was great, wife loved it Spicy soup with milk was amazing, numbing, spicy, and yet smooth at the same time!! Beef trachea was not a dish we appreciated, mainly cause it doesn’t soak up any of the broth flavour Their signature specialty lamb on the other hand, delicious!!! Annnd it remains tender even if you forget it in the pot!! Shrimp balls were also good, though would not recommend the bambo fungus, just get the paste woulda been our pref Highlight of the night was definitely the durian balls and creamy matcha coconut, wife absolutely loved them!! Value 1/1* Definitely on the expensive side, 2 of us ended up spending $120 all in, but was worth it for the food and service provided Service 1/1* Reminded us of Taipei 101 Din Tai Fung back when it first received its Michelin stars; quick, friendly, attentive and thoughtful, they knew I wanted a bowl before I even asked Cleanliness 1/1* Spotless Overall/Revisit 1/1* Would definitely revisit, plenty of other dishes we haven’t tried yet too, ohhhhhh sooo excited!! Paying for ambience? YES, but service makes up for it Above and beyond? +1/+1* Provided my pregnant wife with a pillow (no other table had one)

I'd like to think I'm a bit of a veteran hotpot customer. I've been to almost all of the ones in my hometown and they are relatively the same when it comes to the quality and value. I also never leave hungry. This prompted a visit here as its new to me and it was highly rated. I was expecting the same quality and value and since it's in Vancouver, maybe it might set the bar higher. Unfortunately I was not impressed with the food or experience to justify a bill over $100 for 2 people. Maybe if this was an all you can eat which included premium items I could justify the price but sadly it was not. Food was good quality but portions small and price high. I thought it was a mistake that a small handful of mixed basic veggies was $12. I legit got charged for every little thing including $8 or $9 to go to the sauce bar. The service was great, staff on hand and checking on us almost every 10 mins. I noticed the restaurant was spotless, staff that weren't serving customers were all cleaning like crazy. To order and view the menu was all done on a tablet, food was served by a robot. Aprons were provided to keep your clothes clean. Wife said the bathroom was beautiful and stocked with a bunch of goodies and feminine hygiene products. I like what they are doing to up the experience while eating here but unfortunately it has a cost. I'm pretty simple and I like to eat good food at a fair cost. Not a fan of the gimmicks, just a fan of food. This meal back home would have cost us $60 tops and we would have left ready to burst.

First time visiting HaiDiLao and I gotta say that all the hype you hear about the service is true. To say they have friendly and attentive service is an understatement. From the cloth aprons they provide you, the hair bands, the constant refilling of your water glass... Etc... There were times when I would try to refill my own glass with the jug of lemon water at our table and one of the servers would rush over apologizing that they would do it for me. Their food was good to and you can get up to 4 different brotha at your table. We picked the tomato broth and pork bone (they gave us gloves to pick up the pork bone and a straw to suck out the marrow). You pick your items from a tablet to order. We wound up with the fatty beef (good choice), assorted veggies, quail eggs, fish tofu, enoki mushrooms, meatballs, and noodles. You can get the fancy noodles where yet put on a show tossing the noodles around (but that doesn't seem too great on these covid times). Oh, and did I forget to mention the sauce bar? You pay extra for it but well worth it. I like having the option to make my own sauce with all the different ingredients. They also have fresh fruit and some appies there. At the end of our meal, they have complimentary Chapman's ice cream. Overall, exceeds expectations and you won't be sorry you tried this place.

We went to the new Haidilao Hot Pot on Broadway last night. It was quite an interesting experience. There were free snacks by the entrance and a power station in case your phone needed a charge. Like all the reviews are saying, the service here is great. From the greeting and the way they serve the food are all unique. They pay attention to details like handing out an apron to prevent splashes and a plastic pouch for your phone. The seating area is well designed, with drawers under the seats for your personal belongings and other drawers to keep extra utensils. They also give you a big jar of lemon water. The hot pot broths we had was half spicy and half tomatoes. The tomato broth was amazing, very rich in flavor. The spicy one was for my friend and he loved it too. The seafood and vegetables were all fresh but all in very small portions and the prices were on the high side. The flying noodle is a must-try. The staff comes out with dough and transforms it into noodles right in from of you. The noodles are chewy and delicious. We were tempted to get another order just for the show. I don't really think it's worth it to pay that much for hot pot because you cook the food yourself, but this is definitely a place for a unique and tasty Chinese hot pot experience.

I brought the family here for dinner last night to celebrate my son's birthday. When we started piling our jackets on the bench, they offered to store them in the drawers under the bench for us. When they saw we had a cake, they intiated the offer to refridgerate it for us. They asked whose birthday it was and then whispered amongst themselves. The 4 of us ordered 4 soup bases and a variety of dishes. The server was very attentive all evening, making bowls of soup for us, clearing our dishes, giving us clean plates, and checking in on us. We also ordered the noodles so that we got to enjoy the performance of the noodle dance. Then as we wound down the eating, the server who put our cake in the fridge brought it out and got it ready for us, all without being prompted. They gathered by my son with a flashing board and sang happy birthday to him, while lighting a candle. It was all very thoughtful and very sweet. The soup bases were all really good (spicy, pork bone broth, laksa, and tomato), all the dishes were fresh and reasonably priced. All in all a very good meal. Besides that, I felt that the way the staff treated my kids would be one of the biggest reasons I want to come back with the family.
