I was really excited to try out Jackâs Spot, a relatively new cafĂ© that had been getting some great praise. Led by Chef Stephanie Wong, I had high hopes for a memorable experience. The cafĂ© itself is beautifulâvery aesthetic with a tasteful logo that perfectly complements its modern vibe. It felt like the kind of place you could settle in for a relaxing afternoon.
However, my visit didnât quite live up to the expectations. First, we encountered some wobbly tables, which was a bit off-putting. We even switched tables, hoping for a better experience, but the issue remained.
As for the drinks, we ordered one hot matcha and one iced matcha. Unfortunately, the iced matcha just tasted like oat milk, with none of the expected richness or depth of flavor. The hot matcha wasnât bad, but it didnât quite stand out either. We also tried their focaccia bread, which was a bit tough to cut through, though it did have a nice flavor and was enjoyable despite the texture.
Overall, Jackâs Spot has a lot of potential with its aesthetic charm and promising menu. However, the quality of the drinks and some minor issues with the seating left me feeling a bit disappointed. That said, weâre definitely planning to give it a second try and hope it improves with time, as itâs certainly a place worth...
Read moreOrdered a Mocha and did not taste good unfortunately. The espresso tasted very sour which overpowered the entire drink. Could not taste the chocoltey-ness of the drink. Did not finish the drink sadly.
Edit to respond to ownerâs reply: Yes we did ask for less sweet in the mocha and turned out it was not sweet enough and you added some syrup which made the sugar level better (though not sure why you wouldnât just add some mocha sauce instead, but itâs whatever). We were happy with the sweetness and left.
However, my review is about the coffee itself. The coffee/espresso shot tasted very sour which is odd. I donât think ordering âless sweetâ would change the âsournessâ of the drink. Itâs about how your coffee shop extracted the espresso shot.
My girlfriend and I order mochas all the time from various cafes in the lower mainland and abroad and will usually ask for less sweet. We know how a good mocha should taste like. We wish this couldâve been a good review.
At the end of the day, our order of mocha had a sour taste hence the original 2 star review. But now youâre telling me itâs because we ordered âless sugarâ which to me is...
Read moreCute and much needed coffee spot in the neighbourhood. Itâs a small place and easy to miss, but I assume most people in the neighbourhood know it by now. They have an assortment of pastries, although Iâve only tried the pesto bacon one and their oat milk flat white so Iâll speak to that.
Oat milk flat white is good, itâs strong enough for the flavour to come through as I sometimes find coffee too mild. The pastry is what surprised me though, itâs a combo that worked so well. The bun is made in a way where you can tear pieces away (kinda like a roll) and the pesto is on point. The prices for the quality of the ingredients is worth it and itâs a great place to chat, rather than a stay for hours to do work on a laptop type cafe. The place is small and the turnover is high, but I have yet to visit a time where it wasnât busy. I also spoke with the owner and the staff are very friendly. Overall, if you canât tell, Iâm a fan of this place and would recommend checking it out. It has a cute vibe, great pastries and good coffee for a...
