I loved going to the Icy Bar back in crystal mall. But then they disappeared. When I went to this location I was so excited. But it all came crashing down from here.
My friends and I came to try their famous shaved ice.
But when we arrived, the waitress wasn't the friendliest. Then we weren't being served. And when we were finally ready to order, we were told that we each had to order at least $4 each person. That was ridiculous.
Icy Bar never had this outrageous rule. There were five of us. This meant that we had to spend $20 dollars when all we wanted was a $12 bowl of shaved ice. Why make us pay the extra 8%? That's forcing us to pay almost double the price.
When the food came, we expected it to be good since they made us pay twice the amount.
I was disgusted. The ice filled up 80% of the bowl. There were barely any toppings. The only toppings that were on it didn't even taste good.
To prove my point, they even gave us condensed milk to pour all we want.
The taro was the only decent item. The aiyu and grass jelly was tasteless and so bland that we all gagged. They're not supposed to taste like this!
My friends looked at me and told me, "this is Taiwans signature?! It tastes DISGUSTING!"
I am so ashamed that they make Taiwanese dessert look so nasty like this.
We never finished it. I miss the...
Read moreMe, my friends and family come here almost every Sunday night and every time the girl gets us seated pretty fast and once we were ready to order she was quick with taking our orders and we get our food almost right away, except the mango honey toast those always take around 10 minutes before being served to us but it is also the only hot item we order. The girl was studying on the side when she didn’t need to be serving, taking orders and seating people. Personally I don’t think doing school work while working is a good idea but she stopped studying immediately when we needed something or if someone walked in so it was okay, and my mom thinks that the girl is a good multitasker being able to to everything while studying. When we got our food some of the toppings were on the tray and didn’t have enough napkins we always need to ask for more but all the food was so yummy and somehow every time the mangos are sweet, and when I get the tofu it’s always at a perfectly not too hot temperature so I’m able to just eat it without worrying about it burning me. After we pay for our food the waitress always say “Thank you have a goodnight” with such a happy smile and my mom think it’s just the cutest thing ever. Overall this place is a yummy, comfy, welcoming place for...
Read moreIcy bar is a family business that does Taiwanese style dessert. Other than the popular mango shaved ice with various topping, I enjoy their home-made dessert Tofu with brown sugar syrup along with other toppings. They try their best to keep their prices low, but still use the best fruits they can get their hands on, such as mangos from the Philippines. Their hours of operations are some of the latest in the area, and is usually run by the Mom (the main owner). She works insanely hard, most of time she's by herself in the back. What people don't realize is how hard it is to run a small business while keeping prices low, quality high, and meet supply & demand. People who never owned a small business don't realize how much labor costs are while bringing delicious treats to the community and making a living. Whenever I visit a family owned establishment I always keep this in mind.
It's very easy to complain about not getting your order in a timely manner, but also some of those situations is around the demand at the busiest time in the hottest season. Just like popular brunch spots on the weekends, you'll have to wait your turn when everyone else is trying to cool down...
