First and last visit. The place was not particularly busy yet the barista looked anxious to take our order, not because she was being diligent or showing good customer service. Rather, she looked bored, tired, maybe annoyed because it was getting late and yet, a couple more people showed up wanting coffee. She didn't even say the usual "hi, how can I help you"? Or, "What would you like? Instead, she looked at us expecting an order right away. Did I mention there is not a bord or visible menu? There is this piece of paper or printed sheet, on a frame of sorts, on the counter, displaying the beverages available. Pathetic. She took our orders. Answered a couple of questions. Not a single smile or attempt to be a bit nicer. Moment to pay came. I handed cash. She said they are not taking cash. Plastic it was. Fine. I understand with the Corona virus still going around, businesses are taking precautions, following the rules given to them by the local health authorities. That's fine. What is annoying is the fact that there are no signs instructing or advising customers to pay, using debit or credit cards only. She looked at us as if we were supposed to know that. Again, attitude. Unnecessary attitude. Got our coffees. The place was almost empty, yet all was available inside were these high stools type of chairs, facing each other, divided by wood or plywood panel. Hideous! It reminded me and my friend, of some sort of prison visitor's room , like the one you see in the movies! Took our coffees and sat outside. I noticed my chair was dirty. Went back inside, looked around for some napkins. None to be found. Had no choice but to ask the girl for some napkins . She did not say anything, turned around and handed me ONE napkin. My friend and I used the only napkin to wipe both of our chairs. Time for them to close came and we were asked to leave. I have to say though that the guy that asked us to do so, was very courteous and polite. We apologize for not realizing it was their closing time. Once again, he was very polite and said even he had to put the chairs away, there were some other chairs across the street or next to where we were seating, that we could use if we wanted to stay longer. We thanked him and left. So, kudos to him for showing some good customer service skills! The place looks run down. Did not look filthy but not sparkling either. I can't say I noticed any hand sanitizer. That made me think: they are not wanting to touch money which again, is understandable, but they don't have hand sanitizer? Drinks were average tasting. I am sorry to say this was not a pleasant...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe BEST baked goods! I went to get gluten free for a friend at the lemonade bakery next door. They were closed. Thought I would get a mocha to go and ended up buying everything I needed for my perfect day. ša box of sweets selection for my friends who have new twin girls; gf items for my gf friend; 2 apple fritters for my boys (my husband said it was perfect š); a sandwich that was so huge I could only eat 1/3 so my husband got an extra treat; and a donut with a cafe mocha.
I had my appointment at UBC and spent an hour in the sunshine talking to a stranger - a patient who wheeled herself out to the sunshine. I didnāt know her but we had a lovely visit. Can you imagine being in hospital for 6 months? As i left the parking lot I drove up near to her; jumped out of my car and gave her my chocolate donut š©. She looked in the bag and was ecstatic!
I then went to see the twins. So wonderful passing the babies around as we took turns cutting pieces from each item in the box. It was a gorging fest- Passion fruit! Cinnamon bun! Coconut donut! A cinnamon something tower which was to die for! I forget the other 2 items. I am sure the babies could smell the deliciousness as we took turns eating the yummies.
The staff were so welcoming and wonderful the one gentleman opened the door for me and asked to assist me to my car. Perfect service is not dead in this place. I will return in November. Sorry Lemonade...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIām so appalled by this location!! I frequent JJ bean all the time, but the encounter I just had was very disturbing as a customer.
I ordered a too good to go (app that gives you food that is about to expire to save it from being wasted), which JJ bean would need to have released. I arrived at the pickup time on the pickup date, only to find the store was closed for renovations.
There was staff inside, and when I gestured for help they approached the door. I showed them my app through the door and multiple staff shrugged and pointed to the closed sign. Confused, I showed them the app, and the charge on my card. They did not offer any help, just mouthed āSorry.ā They did not even open the door to speak to my face.
As someone who has worked in customer service I was so shocked they offered no help!! I felt extremely embarrassed as they all gawked at me through the door.
I was able to contact too good to go in order to receive a refund, but JJ Bean should not have released it in the app if the store is closed.
Super disappointed, will not be visiting JJbean anymore. Thereās Forecast across the street and Cafe Mira two blocks down for your coffee fix (great drinks for...
