Took my team out for a staff lunch for all their hard work over the past two years. Kook is located in the same strip mall as the T&T supermarket. Parking is pretty brutal here. Made reservations about two weeks in advance online. 4 total people attended including 1 vegetarian. Order : combo B, the kampoogi (fried chicken chilli sauce) , and the korean mixed rice in stone pot, three beers and blueberry soju. First impressions: Waiter didn't care if I had reservations or not. Just sat me down after I said I had reservations and just sat us down. Service was average (I had to get up to ask the waiter for a coke as one or my staff wanted one) - rang the bell at the table 🛎 twice but no one came. The restaurant was not that busy either as there were empty tables. I believe the waiter was more occupied with his phone than helping us. Food quality: Great and short of excellent. Some of the side dishes I noticed were not that fresh. Quality of meat 🥩 was good. We had a grill but it was not changed for us and this is normally normal practice for korean restaurants (changing of the grill) when it gets overused. I think the hype of this place is overrated. Comparing this to Insadong in lougheed.. This place is slightly better. Not by a whole lot though as Insadong the ingredients seem a bit more fresh. I have to agree that the side dishes or banchan is impressive for the quantity and those who have not had korean food before would be impressed. Overall 4 star 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟. Food was good but something was "missing". You still have to come here to try and experience it.

Came here for dinner in March 2022. We ordered the combo for 6 which was $205. Ban Chan side dishes werw plentiful and there are unlimited free refills. This goes for the lettuce and rice as well which I think is very fair and reasonable given the price. Their potatoes were inconsistent though as they had some which were peeled and some nugget potatoes which still had the skins on. The ones with skins weren't as good as the flavour could not be fully absorbed. We didn't really care for too many of the ban Chan other than the potatoes, picked radish, kimchi and bean sprouts. There was plenty of food for us 6 adults and all of us were full. Meat was tender and flavourful. The chicken was kinda boring. The beef was the best. Rice was delicious and nice and sticky. Everything was very fresh. The fried chicken was the biggest disappointment though. Although the portion is massive and fried fresh, it was very heavily battered. The seafood pancake was also so-so. It was made primarily of imitation crab meat and that's all I tasted. Service was very good and the servers brought us refills without question. Some Korean bbq places limit the refills or don't even give refills or give them seemingly very reluctantly. They were also very polite and smiled. Overall I was very pleased with Kook and would return except they see kind of far from where I live. Next time I would probably go for the combo for 4 since we had plenty of food or order individual food items as we really enjoyed the beef.

Update: Heyman, the manager, offered me a return visit with the entire bill virtually covered. No food poisoning this time, so it was definitely a one-off. Thank you for your great service. We will definitely be back! — Original review: Perhaps this is a one-off experience and the food was off last night, but all 3 of us had upset stomach last night after having dinner here, especially shocking as my wife rarely ever experience upset stomach (I can only recall twice in the past 10 years). It's not terrible to the point of food poisoning, but the stomach was definitely upsetting (and still is 12+ hours later). As a result, I wasn't able to sleep well last night. I've never experienced this with any restaurant before in the Lower Mainland. It's unfortunate because we absolute loved the decor, service, the signature 15 side dishes (why we came), the meat and overall taste. As much as we'd love to come back, I don't think I want to spend another $50/person and risking our health and safety - unless I hear back from the owner with a personal invitation and assurance (open to discuss via email or phone). I would hope the restaurant can investigate what happened last night. With the amount of positive reviews here, take my review with a grain of salt. Perhaps we just picked the wrong night to try this place for the very first time. I hope this feedback will help the restaurant as they're genuinely great people.

Back in early March, before the whole coronapocalypse shut down all of the dine-in eating at restaurants, we dropped by Kook Korean BBQ on East 1st. It wasn’t very surprising that the restaurant was pretty quiet when we visited… but that suited us perfectly. We decided to order their Combo A ($58.95) and add an order of Japchae ($17.95). The thing that I liked about this place is that you can have your BBQ prepared in the kitchen for you in case you don’t really feel like doing the BBQ yourself. The thing that’s really impressive here is the number of banchan dishes that comes with your meal. Combo A comes with prime beef rib, spicy pork, chicken, and bulgogi beef… all of which were tasty but my fav were the beef ribs. It was a bit difficult to tell what all the banchan dishes were but I think they included pasta salad, mung bean jelly, baby bok choy, seaweed, kimchi, pickled radish, boiled egg slices, potato salad, beans, jalapeno slices, garlic, broccoli, bean sprouts, potatoes, and salad. The combo also comes with soft tofu soup with a raw egg that cooks in the hot soup. The food here is seriously good and you’re not going to go home feeling hungry. While some of the banchan dishes seemed like a bit of a stretch (almost as if they were just trying to get enough small dishes to completely encircle the bbq grill), it was nice to have the colourful variety of items.

Thanks to Javier! I recently visited Kook Restaurant and had an absolutely fantastic time, all thanks to the incredible service provided by Javier! I'm not sure if he's new, but his friendly demeanor and infectious energy truly made my dining experience memorable. Javier went above and beyond to ensure that my dining companion and I were comfortable and had everything we needed. He was constantly checking in with us, asking if we needed anything, and even took the time to inquire about our music preferences. His willingness to personalize our experience really stood out to me. What I loved most about Javier was his contagious vibe. He not only provided excellent service but also entertained us with his dance moves while cleaning tables and lip-syncing along to the music. His energy and enthusiasm created such a lively atmosphere that I couldn't help but enjoy myself. Thanks to Javier, I had an unforgettable time at Kook Restaurant, and I will definitely be returning. Kudos to Javier for his exceptional service and for making my dining experience truly special! I highly recommend Kook Restaurant to anyone looking for delicious food and outstanding service. You won't be disappointed! Five stars all the way!
