I came here for an early lunch before heading off to work. If you didn't notice after checking out the menu (Korean dishes (Bibambap/Korean Chirashi Don)) this place is Korean (notice the metal chopsticks).
I ended up ordering the Korean Chirashi Don $12.50 (comes with a squeeze bottle of Korean spicy sauce) and the Appetizer Tempura $4.25 (2 pieces of prawn tempura and 4 pieces of vegetable tempura). What can I say about the Chirashi Don; other then the massive size of the bowl; it had a decent amount of fish (~25 pieces, although 2/3 the size of the regular sushi places, this makes sure that every bite has a little piece of fish). The Tempura was perfectly crispy and delicious.
Definitely worth a visit if your in the area, although it's menu is a bit on the small side, the food is done well and is more then decently priced for what your getting. The service could use some work as well, I asked for the check and saw the waitress nod; however she took a while, packing up a to-go order before giving me the check. I will most likely make this my new default Japanese restaurant, since it's the one closest to me...
Read moreWe ordered several pieces of the saba nigiri. It's a staple for me so I order it at every Japanese restaurant. What happened next was a completely weird experience. The pieces of saba nigiri arrived torched. Nigiri is supposed to be raw saba (mackerel). Not cooked in any way. Especially not torched which is considered "aburi". I informed our server that it should be raw instead of torched. A few minutes later, she brought to us what was supposed to be the items we ordered. After the first mouthful, I had no choice but to spit it back out. The saba had the texture of it being previously COOKED and then chilled in the fridge!!!!!! Never has any decent Japanese restaurant done this before. No wonder they torched my order when it first arrived. Red flags waving all over. Probably in an attempt to mask the previously cooked texture of the mackerel. For them to cook it before serving it, the saba here is CLEARLY NOT SASHIMI-GRADE. Only sashimi-grade is allowed to be served raw. After this horrific experience, I question the integrity of the other types of...
Read moreMom and son date before his skate program. My kid loves bento boxes cuz of the variety and we haven't had japanese food in a while so I chose this location cuz it was closest to the rink. The atmosphere and decor was quaint.
I ordered gomae, sunomuno and a ikura cone. The ikura was not fresh. It is supposed to have a firm outside and nice salty briney taste once it pops in your mouth. This one was paler in colour and has no "pop" , more like an oozy leak. It left a sort of thick residue in your mouth. The most concerning part was the ikura was slimey. If ikura slime pull was a thing, it'd be top rated. The rest was basic tasting.
My son ordered the chicken teriyaki bento box. He enjoyed the Cali roll but not much else. The chicken was almost double cooked and dried out.
I see other posts that rave about this place, so this must be a one off but also would think why would this place jeopardize their reputation by serving something they can visually see wasn't fresh ... Just to make $6 off that cone? Would I try again? ...
