Khob khun ka ขอบคุณค่ะ !! A vibrant, quaint yet traditional upbeat home-cooking style Thai joint is a great go-to option slap bang in the middle of Commercial, wiith an easy and efficient ordering service. I was impressed at how cheap this joint was, especially due to its location with pretty fresh tasting and delicious in plentiful portion! Am absolute gem of a deal in their lunch menu which has a good selection of dishes and caters well for veggies. The staff were super friendly and nice, I decided to head here after positive visits from their other branches around Vancouver and they make good vegetarian food. This joint by far is the best aesthetically, making you feel almost you've been sent into Bangkok. I got a Tofu Pad See Ew ผัดซีอิ๊ว which was very yummy, authentically flavorsome, filling and you can grab yourself some spicy sauces, condiments and extra peanuts. It was just missing a bit of zest that gave it that really fragrant thai style flavor which always sends you back to reminiscing of good old days backpacking beautiful Thailand. They even nailed the fresh rice noodles which are super thick (super yum), drunken-style which are traditionally served with this dish. I also took home some Sweet Black Sticky Rice with Taro which was SUPER yummy! The perfect compliment to a delicious meal. Even if your not up for it at the time, I suggest to grab one of these cheap delicious desserts and refrigerate at home. All in all, a great experience and would recommend if within the area again for sure! Support local businesses!

Thai Basil on Commercial was very clean and the customer service was great. I went in for the Pad Thai with Salad lunch special which was around $8. Very tasty, not spicy (as I requested) but I only got one prawn which was a bit of a disappointment. The salad was just some baby lettuces with a very light and not very flavourful orange dressing but I was there for an authentic Pad Thai experience which I got. No use of ketchup instead of tamarind, this was the closest to real deal Pad Thai that I have had in a while. It did not have a very strong shrimp flavour though, felt more like a vegetarian option than a seafood one which is a shame. If you have back pain like I do I recommend you wait to sit at the booths, the rest of the seating is not very comfortable, especially along the wall. Also, if you go in the summer, it is not air conditioned. Instead it is quite stifling despite the two fans that were going when I went there. A great deal for the price, just wish they had not scrimped on the prawns. Our server was very lovely and sweet. I will definitely go back and explore more of the menu.

Great vibes and all staff are super friendly. Foods some the most authentic Thai you will find in Vancouver it's not the westernized falang Thai that all the other Thai spots serve for hype prices. And Thai basil's portions are huge and their prices are about half that of the other Thai spots aswell can't say enough good things about this place. The chef slays in the kitchen have eaten I think 6 or more meals in a row here the past few days. Pad kra pao, Laab gai, Nam tok, Som tum and Pad see ew all amazing flavors the Thai Ice coffees and teas are a great side kick with the meal, they even have Singha and Chang if you're feeling like a beer. Oh and almost forgot to mention the steamed mussels special done in coconut milk the mussels are just massive with a beautiful color to them. Thanks for holding me over til I get back to Thailand in a few weeks. Really made this falang a happy guy thanks for the welcoming vibes. See you all again soon.

I really wanted to give this place a higher rank. This was my first time trying this restaurant and I was looking forward to it as it was closed on my previous attempts. To put it bluntly, I ordered the Pad Thai and it came standard with shrimp. The Pad Thai was good (not the best I have ever had) but definitely 4/5. The shrimp on the other hand was cold, yes, you read that right, cold. Not luke warm, hot or sort of warm, straight up cold. My sister questioned if it was even cooked but I have cooked enough shrimp to know that it was cooked but possibly left out for a long time. There was absolutely no coloration or char marks from a wok. I flagged down the waitress to ask her if this was normal. I told her to try one to see for herself but she refused. She checked in with the kitchen and came back saying that they would heat up what was left of my padthai (by that time, I ate half of the dish because I didn't want to let the noodles become cold and left most of the shrimp. The waitress made a very clear emphasis that they would bring out the same portion of food that they were recooking. This little snide remark is what broke the camels back. A restaurant serving me old cold shrimp is one thing but to insinuate that I was free loading to get extras is entirely another thing. It is a damn shame because for the price and most of the quality (present dish excluded) I really wanted to like this place and make it a regular stop whenever I was in the neighborhood. I don't think I can in good conscious give this restaurant any more of my hard earned money. I was generous enough to give this place 2 stars because the Masaman curry was actually good. Next time I am in the neighborhood, I will go somewhere else and...

So so so BAD experience tonight at Thai Basil, Commercial drive. I can't believe people gives them a good rate and good comments. It is not a "restaurant", you have to order at the counter, to pick up your drink in the fridge, and claim for a knife to cut your piece of chicken + some more water. Nothing was Covid-free inside. They refused my friend using their toilet before we left the place, because "they were closing the restaurant "soon" (20 minutes later). Unbelievable. And the worst was the food. People here who say that the taste makes they feel like at Bangkok, I think they have never been to Thailand or any other Thai places in Vancouver, because the taste was everything but not Thai. We don't use curcuma to cook Fried Thai rice, we don't use ketchup to cook pad Thai and it was even not salty, and finally, I can't tell what they used to cook the red curry, but they forgot to put curry and coconut milk in. I am used to eat Thai cuisine everywhere in the world and in Thailand, and the taste is almost similar at one place to another. But this one, oh my god, NEVER EVER AGAIN. And the services were so poor and so absent - no need to comment. The only thing Thai in this place were the langage...
