Okay, so our group of 8 hit up this restaurant near the Westin Bayshore Hotel in Coal Harbour, and I can say it was seriously good. We were skeptical about the food quality at first since we were told it was a new restaurant but we were wrong.
We were seated at the corner - tucked in - next to the central bar area.
First off, the group agreed to get a different entree to share so we had sablefish, bone-in pork chop, duck breast, rib eye steak, rack of lamb, lobster gnocchi, and linguine carbonara.
Gotta talk about my Beef Wellington. The beef was cooked in perfection, and that chestnut and mushroom stuff - Duxelles - Sooo good. Seriously one of the best I've had for the price, it's a real steal.
Everyone else was happy with their food too. I also tried the duck breast, the sauce on its own was a tad on the savoury side but tasted good overall.
A gentleman from the table next to us told us we should try their Tomahawk Steak, highly recommended. I might come back for it pairing with their cocktails the next time when I am around.
Services - The waitress we had was awesome, always checking on us and making sure we were happy.
The decor looks really nice too – modern style adds to the overall sense of opulence. The lighting was perfect, made the whole place feel cozy.
The Sequel has a happy hour too! Too bad it is 3:00-5:00pm and I work in the Richmond area, or else I would love to try out their happy hour menu, but definitely a no-brainer for those who works nearby.
Honestly, if you're looking for a good meal in a nice place that doesn't break the bank, check them out. Especially if you're a Wellington fan – you won't be...
Read moreThe service and vibes of the restaurant were just so bad. Everyone who worked there was just all over the place. We were originally the only ones seated in a table in the middle of a room near the back. The music and atmosphere was so quiet- you couldn’t talk without the rest of the room hearing your conversation. We asked if we could move to the one of the many tables available on the side, and the server was very kind and said that shouldn’t be a problem at all. The floor manager, however, was very disorganized and made it seem like it would be a big hassle. we awkwardly stood in the middle of the room for almost 5 mins while they went back and forth in front of us. It was just a very unwelcoming environment.
Both the waitress and the floor manager passed by us a few times while we were still standing there. Unprompted, the waitress told us she didn't want to say anything because the floor manager was new and she didn't want to step on any toes. We don’t need to know the background drama of the workplace- we just need to be seated so we’re not left standing in the middle of a very small, quiet room while everyone seated is looking at us.
The floor manager needs to learn better customer service, and the waiters and waitresses need to be less timid. The music being played was lovely, but it needs to be turned up. Alternatively, re- arrange the tables in that back room to create a less awkward experience for those seated in the middle.
I see a lot of potential with the restaurant it does have beautiful decor. But I would not recommend coming here until they better...
Read moreWhen I heard that Story Cafe had opened a new location downtown, I couldn’t wait to check it out—and it absolutely lived up to the anticipation.
My first visit was a spontaneous dinner with a friend on a weeknight. We were seated immediately despite not having a reservation, and the service was warm and attentive from the start. The wine list was impressive, though I would’ve loved to see a few more selections from BC.
We started with the wild mushroom soup and lobster bisque—both were rich, decadent, and beautifully prepared. For our mains, we both had the beef pappardelle, which was fantastic: perfectly cooked pasta and tender, flavorful beef in a deeply satisfying sauce. We capped off the night with espresso martinis that were flawlessly executed.
The following week, I returned to pick up takeout lasagnas, and they were every bit as indulgent. Generously sauced and leaning on the sweeter side (in a really good way), they were a hit. While I was there, I also arranged a takeout duck breast dinner for my father's 88th birthday, as he’s no longer able to dine out. He was absolutely thrilled. The duck was tender and perfectly cooked, served with excellent sides—and to top it off, the team included a thoughtful surprise that made his day.
Story Cafe’s menu is diverse and well-rounded, with something for everyone: share plates, appetizers, burgers, pastas, and hearty entrées. It’s hard to imagine someone not finding a dish to fall in love with here.
If you haven’t been yet, make plans to go. Whether you're dining in or ordering out, Story Cafe...
