We’ve visited twice - once a year ago we dined with a large party and it was amazing, and once again in early June for takeout which was underwhelming.
We had an awesome first experience last year - like others have mentioned there was quite a wait for a table despite the dining room being mostly empty mid-afternoon. The food was delicious and large portions, our table was well accommodated with dietary needs - gluten free and vegetarian. Menu items are not inexpensive, but we appreciated the large portions and found it very justified.
Recently our takeout experience was less optimal - I’m sure it was a user error on our end but a pasta that had been intended to be gluten free went through the online order system as regular pasta so I was disappointed to only enjoy a flatbread this time, no pasta for me. The gluten free flatbread was fine, the toppings didn’t extend out as far as I remember last time so there was more crust than topped flatbread. The packaging was confusing as we recieved a number of small containers with the order, but they weren’t marked or labelled so we didn’t know which sauce or chopped herb was intended for what dish. The pick up process was a little off putting - we had selected curbside pick up but as out of town visitors we weren’t sure where to pull up (maybe it was clearly marked and we just missed it?) so when I called to say we are here the hostess told me to come in instead. That’s fine - I went in and she handed me one bag initially, when I confirmed it was under my name and for two pastas and a flatbread the hostess then seemed to turn very suspicious and her demeanor and voice changed & asked me to pull out my pick up notification and order confirmation - before pulling the flatbread box out for us as well so we had our whole order. Maybe she just forgot to ask for this from the start, but it would have felt much friendlier had she asked me for that information when I arrived - the way she did made me feel like she thought I was trying to be sneaky and take more than our order or something. If curbside pick up isn’t offered or staff don’t want to participate, perhaps the online ordering system should reflect this.
After our first visit, Scaddabush was top of our list of places to eat whenever we are next in town - which is why we sought it out for our most recent trip. Now I’m not so sure if we’ll seek it out again 🤷♀️ It was seriously so good the first...
Read moreAn experience sure to disappoint. The food was bland and uninspired, but it was the highlight of our visit. Never have I felt so unwelcome at a restaurant. We went for a late lunch around 2pm on a Tuesday, and the restaurant was almost empty. We waited 5+ minutes for the hostess to even show up, and then had to wait longer to see if they had a clean table. Once we were finally seated, we waited... And waited... And waited. It took over 30 minutes for us to simply place our orders, and the waitress just didn't seem interested in helping us at all. After ordering, the food was taking so long I decided to visit the restroom. I passed by the kitchen area and could clearly see our food sitting there under the heat lamps (again, we were almost the only people in the restaurant). On the way back to the table, it was still there. And we waited several more minutes for the waitress to bother bringing it to us. To emphasize once again, the restaurant was basically empty. We were almost the only ones there aside from 2 other tables.
The burger bun was "grilled" which could have been nice, if it hadn't been burnt to a crisp. And I am really tired of restaurants that try to make up for the lack of skilled cooking talent by just drenching the salad in dressing, and the only thing worse than the gallon of Caesar dressing on my salad was the hair that came stuck in it.
The pesto pasta was bland and boring. We wanted to ask for salt, pepper, chili flakes, but the server was nowhere to be found. At one point the hostess did show up to clean the booth next to ours and sprayed my wife twice in the face with her cleaning solution spray bottle without apology.
Near the end of our meal, we heard our server talking to some customers a few tables away: " how is everything? Do you need anything else? Would you like a coffee or a dessert?" -- and then she came over to us and simply said "you're alright, eh? You don't need anything else." It didn't come across as a question. I don't know if this was a problem with the way we were dressed (summer clothes - T-shirt and shorts) or some kind of racism, but either way, it was clear they didn't care for us at all.
Good Lord, it was shameful. We will certainly...
Read moreTook my family there for the first time Monday evening. Really unimpressed. Our server was friendly greeting us and told us she'd take care of us. However, it was other servers that eventually brought our food and just kind of left it on the table, which makes sense because they don't know who ordered what, but they didn't ask, just put it down for us to hand out ourselves. Server did come by to check on us, infrequently and insincerely, but overall, the service was lacking and slow even though restaurant was not nearly full. All our dishes were terribly bland. Tasteless. Started with the Charity Bread. Middle was cold - made me think it was previously frozen or in the fridge and warmed, but was not warmed through. Had the Spicy Fungi pizza - really bland/tasteless but a nice crust. Asked for the spicy oil to add flavour, however it was not spicy at all, it just tasted like olive oil. Table also had the mushroom gnocchi - boring/bland and the lemon shrimp pasta - zero lemon flavor. A table 2 over from us left shortly after we arrived. It was yet to be cleared by the time we left. Distracting and unpleasant to have dirty plates with left over food sit for over an hour. The ambiance seemed to have been set by the hostess. When guests requested more comfortable (unoccupied) chairs (instead of the metal ones), she was clearly annoyed. She eventually got them, but not without noticeable eye rolling and dragging them loudly. She also helped set a table near us but never picked up the dirty napkin lying on the floor beside the table - she walked over to the table twice, stepped on it, but just left it there. This made us question the cleanliness of the establishment. None of us finished our meals. Overall, the staff we dealt with seemed to be in a foul mood, service was exceedingly slow, and the food only memorable for being very disappointing especially at the prices. Although it was not busy, we were left waiting for our requested bill for more than 15 minutes. Have zero intention of returning. Do not recommend given there are so many other options.
