My wife and I dropped by the James Bay Inn Pub on the rainiest Saturday night around 6:30 or dinner. The pub/restaurant is on the entire bottom floor of the inn, half pub on the left, half restaurant on the right. The eatery had a diner feel, with dining tables and huge padded booths. The place was full of diners, most of them baby boomers. My GenX wife was the youngest adult in the joint with the exception of one couple with two children. The walls were covered in glass, glass art, and mirrors. We were shown to a table and given menus and observed that all the food and drinks were classic pub: Bangers and Mash, Fish and Chips, Burgers, Sandwiches, Poutine, Hot Turkey and Roast Beef Open Face Sandwiches with gravy and mashed potatoes. This restaurant is baby boomer comfort food heaven. The one item on the menu my wife was interested in was the Tibetan Bowl but was nervous that it would be a disappointment. Our server (a lovely woman) assured us of the popularity of this new dish that wife decided to try it. It was a hit! The fresh sautéed vegetables were crisp and tasty, the crispy beef pan seared and perfect. My Pulled Pork Poutine and dark lager were exactly what I needed and our server was tops! The whole experience was great. I hope they get more younger customers though. This place is too good not...
Read moreHaven’t been here for a while and definitely won’t be back. Dinner for three of us was fine although we waited 40 minutes for our food. We went to the pub side for the more chill atmosphere. Food was ok, basic pub food with nothing remarkable. We opted not to have alcohol but each ordered an iced tea. The glasses came so full of ice that two sips from the straw and the tea was gone. We laughed about this. The server brought a second iced tea without asking. Still laughing because of the two sip drink my husband asked for a third refill. She brought me one too and I laughed and said I didn’t want it but she left it anyway with no comment. No big deal until we got the bill. $4 per glass! She didn’t charge for the second refill but did charge for the 3rd. $16 for the equivalent of one glass of iced tea! When we called her on it she was rude and...
Read moreIt's got an old familiar feel. I havnt seem many younger people frequent this place. Then again it's always a Saturday afternoon when we go. My roommate Joel takes me there sometimes. We gamble and he orders something. Jack is super great and hospitality it on point as he brings us our drinks later on our food . Which is always a surprise for me. As Joel orders it. Food is always thr always the best part. Because I can eat it I my room. Sitting on my bed with a light tingly bubbly feeling I acquired at JBI. After the meal I sleep for a couple of hours and then recall my day as if it was a dream.
Perfect place for your own daydream.
