I've lived around the corner from this place for two years now, so have tried a fair amount of things. Prices: I want to like this place so bad - it's right by the park, it's easy to walk to. But management is greedy and they've continuously raised their prices over the last couple years. Bussing downtown to Burger King (or the myriad of other great burger joints) would save money. Most of the things here are just frankly not worth what they charge. It's become a blatant tourist trap. Every weekend passing by the place, it's absolutely packed; the price hiking is purely out of greed, and the place has become a sore spot for the people who actually live here. Staff: I know a lot of people who work food service, so when I see reviews about rude staff, I don't believe the customer. Sorry. If you treat workers like human beings, they won't be rude to you. I've never had a problem with anyone working here. I've had long wait times and one time had my order forgotten (it just happens sometimes!) and the worker came out and was very apologetic and it was resolved. That said, the place is known to be a revolving door, is constantly short-staffed, and has a less-than-stellar reputation in the industry. Fries: A couple months ago, I would have said they have the best fries in James Bay. Unfortunately, it seems they've cut corners (and raised their prices to boot!) and now their fries are fairly mediocre. Burgers: their burgers are usually passable. Luckily, I haven't gotten the bad lettuce I've seen in a few other reviews. But if you get sick easily, it's probably best to play it safe. Sandwiches: The worst. Definitely do not get them. The meat is dry and weird, the bread is just plain. Cannot believe how much they charge for what is essentially wonderbread, mayo, and sadness. If you want to pay $10-12 for a sandwich that's actually worth the money, go to For Good Measure on Niagara St. or Bubby Rose's on Menzies St. Breakfast: In my opinion, their breakfast is their only redeeming quality. I actually quite like their breakfast sandwiches, though it's not fine dining by any means, and more in line with something you'd get at a fast food chain. They're always very fresh and crispy. They also don't overcook their bacon like a lot of places. Their hashbrowns are pretty decent, too. Good hangover breakfasts if you live in the area. Coffee: It's fine. It's a diner, you can't expect much. Chicken strips: Again with the price. You get 3 little strips and some fries for $14? Come on. Poutine: 6 months ago, this was the best. I used to come here weekly for lunch just for the poutine. Now it's a full dollar more with worse fries and less topping. In conclusion: the food here is nothing to write home about. On occasion, it's bad. Usually, it's fine. Most commonly, it's not worth the money. If you have any sensitivities or get sick easily, it's...
Read moreI would have given 5 stars as this was our family’s favourite soft ice cream in Victoria. However, in our recent experience, it was sadly and alarming that the service has gone poorly especially with attitude of cashiers and servers including their knowledge on allergens and safety approach to people with food allergies. Asked the cashier if they had allergens most especially peanut before we could place our order, the server made face to my family that they thought that allergies were not real. The girl server said that no they did not have peanuts. We checked their menu and did not have peanuts on the menu. As my family peeked in the window, we saw one server prepping the ice cream- and we were curious if the ones on top of the counter were crunched granola bars - the guy server said no- they are Oh Henry—- this was so alarming!!! They did not disclose originally that they had peanuts and the other lady server said oh which one is peanut… then my family had to explain the contamination and yet they were pushing for us to receive the ice cream after seeing that the whole Container of crushed Oh Henry was everywhere on the counter with other flavourings. They were saying that the caramel did not have peanuts however with their handling and contaminated counter with OH Henry, they were still insisting on us to take the ice cream. The other disappointing behaviour- the servers showed us was when they made a mistake taking an order instead of vanilla with chocolate dip- they gave us chocolate swirl and the server was forcing us to take the chocolate swirl as well as they would dip the chocolate swirl with chocolate dip but “no guarantee” that the chocolate dip would stick with the chocolate swirl. We did not accept this ice cream, and they were angry at us. I tried to explain that was not we ordered. Again they gave us behaviors that they were not accommodating. These experiences were so alarming -number one for safety of people with allergies and poor service for not serving the right order of the customer and insisting what they had on their hands. When did the service of Beacon Hill Drive in ice cream become poor? this is so sad!!! We’ve been going to this restaurant for more than 30years and this was never an issue. To the owner - please educate the servers regarding allergens for safety and right attitude when serving customers. This is serious ! This is really bad and not acceptable customer service! The business will lose customers if the owner will not look into these type of...
Read moreVery disappointed overall.
I went with my partner who is a practicing vegetarian, so veggie options are important.
And koodos to them, they do have a veggie burger, but it all went down hill very quickly after that.
Here's the deal... They offer a 'combo' (fries and a drink) with every sandwich/burger/hot dog etc except for the veggie burger.
Just looking at the price, had we ended up actually ordering, for a veggie burger, fries and a pop would have been almost $20.
Yet a cheeseburger deluxe combo is only $9.75?!?!?!
Then, to make matters worse, when we asked for a combo price, was told no. And they refused to ring the order up as a different burger, citing the inventory would be incorrect.
Seriously? Fix it.
But then, if you actually pay attention to the pricing of the combos, there is a significant difference in the price markup for the fries and drink.
For the cheeseburger deluxe, they charge $3.50 for the extra items.. Yet, for the double cheeseburger combo, the difference is $4. $3.55 difference for the halibut burger.
Does anyone else follow?
This restaurant is endorsing a discriminatory environment. Otherwise, a side of fries and a drink should always be the same price!

Dear owners,
My apologies, you only have some of your sandwiches/burgers as a combo. Regardless, you have different pricing for the fries and drink options.
And I'm getting that information right from your menu. Maybe you should refresh your memory. And your customer...
