So so refreshing to finally have a sushi place like this in Victoria. I come here for lunch almost every day. Fantastic sushi, way better than a whole lot of other places in the city (I can't recall having fresher salmon anywhere else). Great menu selection, too. I don't know anywhere else where you can get poke bowls and fried ice cream! On top of all that, probably the best pricing you will find anywhere in Vic, and definitely the best in the downtown area. Amazing deals considering what some places around here will charge you for basic rolls. It's no fancy candlelit dinner type of place - they've got a modest storefront - but it's wonderfully convenient, and they clearly put a lot of care into maintaining the space. The decor is lovely, regardless of the small area. Besides, Vic has plenty of fancy expensive sushi restaurants already. ;)
Oh, and the owners are so, so sweet. Very kind, absolutely wonderful customer service. They have remembered my name since the very first time I visited. Would give even more stars if that was possible. :) If you're a big fan of sushi (or even a casual fan), you don't need to look...
Read moreI eat sushi regularly and I used to eat at a variety of locations. But since I discovered Sushi Time Express, I go out of my way to go there. I don't know what exactly they do to make their sushi taste better than other places, but whatever it is I hope they never stop. The textures are very satisfying, and there is a fullness to the taste-- layers of flavors in every bite. Yet it's simple, too. I cant really describe it. I've never liked brown rice sushi, but I really like it here. Also, the cold yam tempura deserves a special mention. It is drizzled with an absolutely delicious sauce which is made from scratch by the owners. When I'm eating the cold yam tempura, the enjoyment is total. I can't even carry on a conversation!
My only complaint about Sushi Time Express is that it isn't open on weekends, and this fact often has me hurrying there on a Friday because I know I will have to go the next two days without. If you like Japanese food, I strongly recommend you give this...

The first thing I noticed was how incredibly outgoing, friendly, and helpful the owners were. Quick to greet me and quick to answer questions and provide guidance.
I went with a negitoro roll and the smoked salmon roll, with green tea and a miso soup. I was debating whether or not to order a negitoro roll, as most places sell smaller rolls for around $4.50 and STE sells theirs at almost $7. It was very worth it, it came as a larger roll of 8 pieces portioned larger than I am accustomed to. I'm happy I chose only two rolls and the soup, as I'm quite full. That says a lot, as a 230 pound guy who can eat a lot. They have an excellent selection of teas from Silk Road too, and I thoroughly enjoyed the wassabi they make themselves. I normally loathe wassabi. Theirs was delicious.
All in all, fantastic experience. I look forward...
