Read moreWe ordered a soup, fried cod and salmon, 6 oysters and... scallops. We asked for takeout because I was finding it really dizzy having the dock keep moving on the water and they said it was available. We waited about 10 minutes for our food which was unrealistically quick but when we got our food packaging, they mentioned that they didn't have any plastic bags. We had to carry 4 big containers of food. It was raining like crazy and we didn't have enough hand to carry everything so we decided to put 2 of the boxes into the shopping bag I was already carrying. It was a paper shopping bag and I put one hand out the bottom to make sure it didn't all just fall out he ground. It was a 20 min walk, and about 10 min after we started walking back to our hotel, I felt lots of water dropping on my pants but expected it to be Rain. And 5 min after that someone mentioned that my shopping bag was soaked with the juice from the scallops and there was a big hole in the middle of the bag. The water drops I felt on my pants was sauce from the scallops. Rain was the biggest reason but the other biggest reason was because they gave out the liquid food in a paper container. I think it's a common sense that paper can't withstand liquid, and that it will leak. I was getting really stressed walking in the rain with soaked paper bag that was falling apart from liquid falling out of the scallops and having that juice all over my pants. I would have felt much better if the food tasted good but it was definitely not enough to make me...
Read moreI checked out all the places in Victoria that had fish and chips looking for a down home canadien experience. I chose The Fish Store, despite other recommendations, because they use only local seafood and sustainable practices, and frankly buying from a fresh fish store was appealing. The server who took our order was very friendly and helpful in describing the fish portions that we specifically asked about, we chose a 1 and 2 piece halibut fish and chips. It is exactly what I was looking for! THE BEST fish and chips I have had in years! As a child, we used to get the most amazing fish and chips in White Rock BC, and I am always looking for that experience again when I come to the canadien coast. The Fish Store did not disappoint. The batter was very light and the fish was cooked just perfect- so very tender and delicious. Other people sitting at our table bought from another fish place on the warf and their fish looked chewy and the batter was way too much for me. The coleslaw was a lovely light, flavorful slaw. The tarter, not sure what it was, it seemed butter based maybe- wasn’t my favourite , but I would definitely go back over and over. THIS really is the best fish and chips in Victoria...
