Most of everything was so good. We did not have reservations and on a Sunday night at 8pm we thought we'd be fine. Wrong. Make reservations if you want a table, especially in the patio which is lovely. We could, however, sit at the bar, which served their full menu. We took it and actually jumped 3 other tables, with reservations, still waiting for their table. Service was exceptional. Always there to attend to things but never intrusive. As we sat at the bar we got to watch them clean and prepare drinks. Top notch. Food was so good. We split the tomato and boccochoni cheese salad (capresse), prosciutto and melon (prosciutto e melone) and a pork tenderloin with caramelized apples maiale Al brandy). I could live on the first two courses, especially the cheese and tomato. However, the pork, although good, was overcooked and bordering on dry. We were full anyway, and it was still tasty, so didn't say anything. It was over only by a few minutes. Then we had the crème brulée and panna cotta. So good. Our food also came with fresh fructia bread with and olive tapinada. I don't like olives but the bread was too die for. Oh we started with the a chocolate espressos cocktail, I think the Sparta. So good. Overall it would eat here over and over again. Maybe not the pork but many options to choose from.

The server was nice and drinks are delicious. The ambiance was lovely to the point I want an Himalayan salt candle🕯️holder like the restaurant for my work place decor. The lamb shank was the dish I ordered; the presentation was pretty but the taste was a hardcore miss. The almonds crusting was nice but the lamb was tough and the sauce was ridiculously salty. I devoured the vegetables and drank lots of water to wash down the saltiness and really relied on mashing the Polenta down and mixing with the remaining pieces of the lamb to swallow it down. My boyfriend at one point thought I was too full or going ill due to the change of facial expression while eating. I finished my meal but it was not pleasant; when I explained later about my dish, he thinks the meat was overcooked with the juice reduced too much. I can't seem to taste the bone marrow at all which was disappointing. He was unable to verify the taste himself as he has a nut allergy but I trust his opinion as he specializes cooking with shanks and marrow. I may come back to this restaurant but will steer clear from the lamb and ordering something else. Being quarter Italian, my boyfriend was not impressed with the food (he ordered the lasagna and he said it wasn't spectacular) and is not convinced in returning anytime soon, so if I do return it will be with other guests. 😭

This is one of the top restaurants in the city. By the best italian place within the City of Victoria. Food: Portion sizes are large and fair for the pricing. Food is made fresh in-house, and the seafood doesn't taste fishy at all. Even the shellfish wasn't bad, and I am not a shellfish person generally. Atmosphere and table: It is a very small restaurant but It's an open concept which makes it feel very spacious. There are no booths within. There are only tables and chairs. During the summertime, they have a very nice patio. Service: Service is excellent as you would expect in fine dining. The only con on this aspect is the popularity of the restaurant on the same day? Reservations are hard to come by. Be prepared to be planning out at least a week in advance. On the day of your reservation, you might end up waiting for a table to leven though you made a reservation. The staff gives you 3 hours for your table/reservation before they ask you to leave. So if the table prior to you is running late, you will have to wait for them.

I will admit a slight bias in this review. For a long time my favorite stop was an Italian Coffee place in Bastion square called Paridiso de Stelle. I would get a double Americano and watch the harbour traffic go by. Well Paradiso is no more but its owner, Italo, has a new place and it is classic, welcoming, and awesome. We had a reservation (highly recommended) for a Sunday night. We were welcomed with pleasant and unhurried service. We had the meatball appetizer to go with the focaccia bread with tempenade and a couple of the pasta specials. The food was tasty, fresh and excellently presented. The prices are on the mid to upper range. Appies in the teens, Pastas 20-25 and meat seafood mains over 30. This is purely a dinner place. I was happy to see it draw a very mix crowd with the younger crowd to the grey hair set, with ourselves in between. It provides a classic meal without feeling too ritzy. It will be our new go to special dinner restaurant.

Food was very good with excellent presentation. Nice bottle of Chardonnay. Ambiance very pleasant. The outside courtyard is very quaint for a nice evening out. Our server was very charming. Service times were discombobulated. At the 20 minute mark after being seated we finally had to go get someone in order to get water and order drinks. It did appear that Covid protocols were in place but no one was managing service levels. Our dessert order was forgotten. I’m a big supporter of local businesses & Think Local Victoria fan but I know this restaurant can & should do better in the timing. We’re all rooting for businesses to succeed but business fundamentals dictates you shouldn’t forget the customer. In spite of the service challenges my bubble Friends and I enjoyed a night out at this restaurant. I would give four stars had service been at higher quality. I’m rooting for Il Covo Trattoria!

We had dinner here for my boyfriend's birthday and the restaurant surprised him with a small tiramisu with a birthday candle. That said staff were polite and our orders came in a good pace. We started off with their complementary focaccia bread which was still fresh and warm from the oven. It had this really lovely olive and anchovie spread that came with it. The waiter was really nice and asked us if we wanted some more but we had to restrain ourselves as we had 3 courses coming in. We had the carpaccio to share. Then, I really enjoyed my bacon wrapped fillet Mignon as my main. I requested it to be medium well done but it was still really tender and yummy. I would recommend it. The panacotta for dessert satisfied my dessert craving as well. Its creamy and almost melts in your mouth. I tried to eat it slow and savor every bite.
