Barge turned sauna. Definitely a unique and interesting concept. But it works! After being checked in, you're lead to a communal/all gender locker room area, with both open and private showers. While I was comfortable and felt safe, this could pose some challenges to folks requiring a little more privacy. Also maybe another bench or two in this area would be very helpful as there were two guys sitting on the benches sitting and waiting for their friends/partners, leaving not much room for us to put our bags, towels or clothes down. Perhaps even some chairs or more seating in the lobby area. After you leave the change room, you walk out the doors and before heading up the flight of stairs, there is a lounge area where you can order food and drinks (didn't get a chance to utilize this service, but it looked nice and relaxing). Upstairs there were two hot tubs and an ambient pool on the left side facing the harbour. They were all full so we headed to the saunas. There are three, a cedar, eucalyptus, and a regular. 2 of which are silent and the third being social. This is nice when you're wanting a quiet and relaxing space. The cold plunge is very refreshing! 3 cold showers also nicely spaced out. A ton of lounge seating is also available. The salt scrub and shower was absolutely amazing! There's also complimentary herbal tea and water. Now the downsides....we've been to a few different Scandinavian type spas, where there is either no talking allowed or minimal talking. While most guests here were considerate and spoke softly or whispered, there was one group of about 8 people that overtook the hot tob area for almost the entire duration and were very loud, talking across from one pool to the other, and just not leaving a relaxing space for others not in their group. Even with skafest taking place right next door, the music and noise from there wasn't bothersome, but having to listen to the loud group conversations was a bit disappointing. The place also felt too crowded. There were about 15-20 people in the hot tub area at one point, especially when it came to sunset. The saunas sometimes had 3-6 people in them so felt the need to wait for them to clear out. Take note that the time for you to get changed, showered, etc is built into your time slot, so something to consider when deciding to book a 2 or 3 hour session, as you could be losing up to 30 minutes or so. The facility was super clean! Would return but not on a weekend, and maybe during the week instead or during their women only times, and would go for the 3 hour session so we can try the food and drinks. Overall a good experience and recommended others...

Read moreOne of the absolute coolest places in town. I went last night for my boyfriend’s birthday and I’m still dreaming about it. I went in a bit anxious (as we were hustling to get there on time, and because I have an anxiety disorder), but let me tell you, 30 minutes of this place, and my anxiety and tension were completely gone. GONE. The staff were so attentive, so kind, and very zen-like. They were constantly monitoring the appearance of the spa, refilling items such as the salt in the salt scrub shower, (which was delightful btw), water and tea, robes and towels, etc. My boyfriend went for the late night 2 hour booking and it was so spectacular and peaceful. Towards the last 45 minutes or so it was also very quiet in the spa, and therefore had an especially intimate, romantic vibe, especially onlooking the Victoria night sky and beautiful city lights. We also had the luxury of often having private sauna time all to ourselves, as well as the shelter area, and the lounge, throughout various parts of the evening. :) We were so surprised and proud at how we were able to tolerate the chilliest cold plunge tub! It was so insanely cold haha, but boy, was it refreshing and invigorating! In addition, though I’m not gluten free, it was a nice touch that the entirety of their café menu in the lounge was gluten free! Very accommodating for celiac and gluten sensitive folks. The entry fee may scare you at first, as it did for me, but let me assure you: our time here was well worth it and so special, and I can almost guarantee yours will be too. You have to take into account the labour of love this special place endured to open and endures daily to maintain, as well as the aspect of this maybe being a treat for a special occasion like it was for us. :) Lastly, we will definitely be booking a 3 hour time slot for our next visit, not because the 2 hour was too short, but because we enjoyed it so much!! Thank you to the HAVN team for making our evening so special, we cannot wait to return in...
