Worst service in the industry
The thing about this review is that I am basing it off of countless visits to this restaurant. It had become a running joke when my wife and I went that the service was going to be horrendous. My wife absolutely loves the food here and I never minded it either. The only catch is that we have an awful experience with the service every time. This does come with one exception. When Scarlett worked there a year and a bit ago we had the most amazing experience every time. It came down to us calling in before we went every time to ensure that she was working or we would not even go. It is amazing that management is so consistent on hiring hostesses/waiters/waitresses that don't care about their customers at all (with Scarlett as the one exception). Thank gosh it is half price when we go on Thursday nights for the Quick Bites menu or I am sure we would have stopped going a long time ago. So far we have walked out two times due to no service after ten minutes of being seated at the table, seated ourselves approximately half a dozen times because there is often no hostess at the front. This last time one of the servers even saw us waiting at the front and proceeded to get her menus and ignore us after making eye contact rather than letting someone know that we needed help. So again, we seated ourselves.
My wife is the reason that we keep returning strictly due to how much she enjoys their food but this last time she said "I don't think I want to come back here again, I am so sick of this service". My wife always tells me to tip less when we get bad service, but knowing too many people in the industry, I will generally give 15% on bad service. If it is good service, and especially on deal nights like this one I will tip up to 40% all day. The deal makes it that much easier to give back. Needless to say, this last visit, I gave 10% to the waitress that didn't even tell us she was leaving on a break and the bar tender noticed us looking around and gave us a hand.
Managers, if staff is grouped in a room talking and sitting on counter tops and not seeing how their customers are doing or even seating them, maybe you should consider firing them. This is strictly a customer satisfaction industry and you have no staff to back it. Get Scarlett back to train every single one of your staff and you may see an increase in revenue.
Side note: The bar tenders here are amazing and have been super amazing to deal with on...
Read moreOver 45 years of visiting Mr. Mikes and never ever, not even once had a negative experience.....until tonight! Reservation weeks in advance and called the week prior to get them know we will be 8 with 4 adults and four children. 3 being 7, 5 and four years old. We show up and it didn't even look like we had a reservation. So much so, that as we all walked in they seated us to a high top with 3 little girls? I asked to confirm that this was our seating. I was to told it was. I followed up by saying can we get a regular table and seats because we have 3 little kids? I was told, that is your table. It was only after I said, we will need proper seating for the kids or we are walking to somewhere else. We were asked to "leave the restaurant" while they set up a new table. Came back and the seating was perfect.
Ordered our $400 meal which included my $50 steak dinner. Mistake by the kitchen with my oldest daughters garlic, parm fries and mashed potatoes? No worries. Carry on. All was great, till I got mine. Ordered a medium rare steak that came in at nearly well done. The chef should be embarrassed that they thought for a second that this was cooked properly. Mentioned it to our server.....well there was no debate, she apologized after seeing it and offered to bring an new meal. It wasnt even close. Then, a steak shows up at the table with literally nothing with it. No sides, no starch, no veggies and no nothing. Simply a plain steak! I literally had one bite of the original steak that was to come with veggies, mushrooms, gravy and mashed potatoes. I repeat "one" bite. Finally after everyone was nearly done their meal a proper steak with all the fixings came in. Yup, it was finally the meal that I have grown to expect at Mr. MIKES for over 45 years. It was epic! Server was very good! She did what she could do to clean up on aisle 4 due to the multiple kitchen failures! Deserts and drinks were fantastic! This was a dinner that brought our family together after not seeing each other since COVID. Sharing amazing conversations, catching up and having an amazing experience is what we wanted. Not to whine about the multiple kitchen deficiencies. Not impressed to say the least. Mr. Mikes is still one of my fav places to dine. It just won't be in WEM. It wasn't one thing, it was multiple things that were completely preventable with ease by what I know as the historically...
Read moreWe came in as a party of 8. Sat in the bar area, I believe because that was easier for them. It wasn’t terribly busy. I could only see a couple tables occupied other than our party. We were happy to be there, it was a company dinner that we had looked forward to all week. Made the mistake of choosing Mr. Mike’s as opposed to waiting a half hour for Earls. Service was fine to start. That changed once drinks hit the table. The server brought everyone a drink except for one person. We waited and made them aware. You would expect it to be immediately remedied… we were so close to the bar. It was still another 7 minutes before they came back with my colleague’s pint. From there, food came out warm but not hot. I had a good laugh when I was warned about the hot plate, that still wouldn’t have been true if they’d used the term “warm” instead. My rare steak was more like medium well. The manager asked if I would like another beer and brought back the wrong one. I pointed it out, you could see by the tint of the beer I had in my hand and of the one she was trying to put in front of me. We were all quite disappointed with the food and 7/8 of us had a good laugh about the whole missing drink situation. Luckily for the server there’s always an auto-grat on parties of 6 or 8+. Most of us stiffed them on the tip on our drinks that we paid for on our own to try and level the playing field. I should make it very clear that as a food and beverage / hospitality professional of over 15 years… I never “zero out” the service staff but at that point the auto-gratuity felt more like a sucker’s tax.
There are a lot of other options on Bourbon Street, I urge you to choose any of them.
Overall extremely poor experience, it was my first time dining with this brand and I probably won’t...
