Visit #1 February 2024: the food was delicious and the prices were what we initially came for. It was a good night with friends except the service was slow. I can understand slow service when the restaurant is busy but this was unbelievably slow. We would've ordered more food and second beers for sure but had no opportunity to. Even though we were there for a few hours! And one person's beer came after he finished eating. Even just to get our bills I almost had to get up and find someone.
Visit #2 November 2024: travelled from hours out of town and decided to meet with a different friend who'd never tried Five and Dive. I can tell you he probably will never be coming back. He got there well ahead of our other party joining us. He ordered first. Before we even got there. And he didn't get his food until AFTER we all (5 other people) had FINISHED eating!! The restaurant was not busy like it was the first time we went and our server actually came to check on us a few times which was great! But they couldn't even offer him some comp for the mix up. Seriously?!
He waited over an HOUR for his two little food items.I took a group photo and the time stamp is over an hour since the time we got there, he had no food still and he had ordered before we got there. Not a huge multi course meal, just some handheld bar-type foods.
And the waitress said she tried to do something for him but it wasn't her call to make, to give him any compensation. Ok, fair. Never heard that before. When the waitress forgot to put the food order in at other restaurants they'd often comp something. Maybe the beer or something. Anything. Just to make up for it monetarily. More than an "oops, sorry, my bad" response. That left a poor taste in my mouth. I felt so bad, he got there first and got us a table and waited so long for his food. He obviously was hungry!
I can't believe the management would be so tight fisted to not approve some sort of compensation. For that, we will choose another establishment next time.
My friends know me for finding the deals and introducing them to new places. We thought we had really hit on something special with Five and Dive. But it's lost its appeal. There are lots of establishments to choose from in the city so why repeat?
Conclusion: The shockingly slow food service (2nd visit) and straight up inattentiveness (1st visit) is not worth the few bucks you save since the portions are small so you end up ordering and spending as much as you would anywhere...
Read moreI come to Edmonton for work from time to time and have attempted to enjoy Five and Dive three separate times--I left all three times, disappointed--two of the three times before I even got served. ... I suppose it's my fault for giving them this many chances.
Most recently, my wife and a close family member from out of town stopped in here for some evening drinks and food a couple of weeks ago on a very dead Thursday evening. We stood at the door of the extremely loud and increasingly unironically "divey" looking venue for some time until we were rather unwelcoming shouted at from the bartender to "just sit wherever you want!" ... As we were deciding where to sit, I made a gesture towards some tables in the back and apparently caused a server to need to dramatically swerve around me, spill the drink she had in hand and huff at me as though it was my fault she came from behind without so much as a "behind!" and can't hold a single Caesar in her hand without spilling it.. I immediately apologized, but instead of a courteous customer-friendly response, I was given a snotty look and a sassy strut-off.. Perhaps she was having a bad day... Or in the wrong industry.
We then proceeded to sit there at a table for over 15 min, being ignored by the servers and bartending staff while they stood around and/or slowly bussed tables around us... When we eventually gave up, my wife let the bartender know that we were leaving and that no one came to greet us... They didn't care whatsoever. When my wife mentioned this, the bartender didn't acknowledge or apologize, just offered her a shot as a flimsy, condescending attempt to make herself look like she gave a shit at all. My wife passed on their last ditch "effort", of course, and we went to Hudson's. It was awesome. Immediately served with a much better vibe and food.
Save your time and money and go elsewhere where they actually want your business and have respectful, welcoming staff that aren't...
Read more⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 1,000/10 - Olivia D Isn’t a Person. She’s a Supernatural Phenomenon.
Where do I even begin?
Olivia D isn’t just amazing — she’s the human equivalent of a double rainbow riding a unicorn through a glitter storm while Beyoncé sings in the background and Ryan Reynolds slow-claps from the front row.
From the moment she enters a room, the laws of physics break slightly — light bends toward her like she’s the sun, and everyone’s IQ goes up just being near her. I once saw someone drop their coffee just to have an excuse to talk to her. Worth it.
She’s funnier than a cat in a banana costume doing stand-up. She’s so charming that if Olivia D told me to start a llama rescue farm on Mars, I’d be packing my bags and learning llama whispering tomorrow.
Need help? Olivia’s got you. Lost in life? She’s got the GPS and the snacks. Feel like a dumpster fire? She’ll show up with glitter, duct tape, and a playlist that makes you believe again.
I once saw her solve a crisis, make three people laugh so hard they snorted, AND fix someone’s eyeliner — all at the same time. With one hand.
If Olivia D were a flavor, she’d be “salted caramel lightning bolt.” If she were a weather pattern, she’d be a “Category 10 good time.” If she were a currency, she’d crash the economy from being too valuable.
Bottom line: If you ever get the chance to meet Olivia D, work with her, or just bask in her chaotic, magical, hilarious orbit — take it. Cancel your plans. Sell your couch. Do what it takes.
I’m not saying she’s perfect, but if she ran for president of the universe, I’d vote twice and tattoo her campaign slogan on my forehead.
