Came to this location after not going to Moxieās for years because of hearing how they treated their staff in March 2020. After years of experiences that were consistently disappointing, we finally decided to give it another try, as their website noted that theyāre making ābig changesā.
The experience at the host stand was less than inviting, and almost caused us to go somewhere else on Bourbon Street. Three employees were taking names of guests on the wait list with a piece of paper, as if the restaurant industry is still in the 1980ās. With the extreme noise levels of Bourbon Street on a Friday night, Iād think that there would be a better solution to a wait list than calling peopleās names out. There was a couple who was called four times, but didnāt hear, and we watched the hosts talk with one another to guess āis it them?ā, walk over to the couple and say āare you _?ā, and then bring them in to seat them. This is an important note for people who may be hard of hearing⦠Itās completely exclusionary. When the hosts told us it would be a 15 minute wait, we asked if we could sit at the bar for a drink, pay our bill, and then move to a table. The hosts looked at each other, unsure, and responded āWeād prefer if you didnātā¦ā. I was very alarmed to hear this, as it would be no additional work for the hosts, because weād still be on the wait list, but weād simply be spending more money at the bar while we wait, instead of waiting on an undesirable bench, listening to the yelling of names. To say the least⦠it was a very uninviting first point of contact.
When we sat, our server Alyssa, was kind and told us about the features. She was very clearly overwhelmed, as were most of the other servers that we saw. Iād like to note that this did not seem like her fault, at all. The entire atmosphere of the restaurant was chaotic. She was prompt and listened to our questions/modifications. She did apologize to us because she wasnāt able to chat more, which again, did not seem like her fault. If she had more support by management or other staff, it may have helped her with connecting with her tables. We sat right beside a server station, where staff were piling dirty dishes and glasses from other tables right beside our heads⦠Did we forget that COVID is a thing? Where are the hygiene protocols? Dishes were stacked on the side ledges, and a plate almost hit my sister in the head, but then the staff member caught it in time and didnāt even apologize. Disgusting and unprofessional.
The menu has changed quite a bit since weād last visited, with some menu items seeming enticing. We tried two new appetizers, the Whipped Feta and Truffle Fries. The fries were cold and soggy, so we sent them back, and they returned fresh. However, I would not order it again⦠Itās ridiculous to me that a small order of fries is $11.50. The Whipped Feta was extremely disappointing ā it tasted like a bagel with cream cheese. I didnāt come for breakfast. Why the culinary team chose stale, tasteless, under toasted, drizzled poorly with oil, obviously-cheapest bread option is beyond me. The rigatoni always hits the mark, though. That sauce is the saving grace of Moxieās, in my opinion. Coming back after years of a pandemic with removing Moxieās staples, like the Med Bread, Broccoli Soup, and Sticky Toffee Pudding is so disappointing. The way that the Nachos are $26 BEFORE add-ons is literally appalling to meā¦
Again, I would return for Alyssaās service and kindness, but only if she was working at a different restaurant. The only ābig changeā that should occur is for Moxieās to return to their glory of 2010-2014, when it was fairly priced, focused on guest connection and fast service, and cared...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreDuring a recent visit to Moxies in West Edmonton Mall, my wife and I had an absolutely fantastic dining experience. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with a warm and inviting atmosphere, setting the stage for an unforgettable meal.
We started with the whipped feta dip with warm tomatoes, and it was nothing short of incredible. The creamy, tangy feta paired perfectly with the roasted tomatoes, creating a delightful balance of flavors. The dip was served with crispy, well-seasoned bread that added just the right amount of crunch. It was the perfect way to kick off our meal, and we knew we were in for a treat.
For our entrĆ©es, my wife opted for the shrimp tacos, and she couldn't stop raving about them. The tacos were packed with perfectly cooked shrimp, fresh toppings, and a flavorful sauce that tied everything together beautifully. She described them as divine, and judging by the way she savored every bite, Iād say they were a definite hit.
I chose the Thai curry prawns in coconut broth with noodles, and I have to say, the flavors were absolutely amazing. The rich, aromatic coconut broth had just the right amount of spice, complementing the tender prawns and perfectly cooked noodles. Every bite was packed with depth and warmth, making it one of the most satisfying dishes Iāve had in a long time. A big thank you to Chef Jem for preparing such an outstanding mealāit was clear that a lot of care and expertise went into every dish.
Beyond the fantastic food, the service at Moxies was top-notch. Our server, Vanessa, was excellent! She was attentive, friendly, and made sure we had everything we needed without being intrusive. She offered great recommendations, checked in on us at just the right moments, and ensured that our dining experience was seamless and enjoyable. Itās always refreshing to receive genuine, attentive service, and Vanessa truly made our meal even more memorable.
The overall atmosphere of Moxies was stylish yet comfortable, making it the perfect spot for a relaxed yet high-quality dining experience. Whether youāre looking for a casual meal, a date night spot, or a place to enjoy great food with friends and family, this location delivers on all fronts.
With such an impressive menu, fantastic service, and a welcoming environment, Moxies in West Edmonton Mall has definitely earned a spot on our list of favorite restaurants. We left completely satisfied and excited to return for another amazing meal.
If youāre in Edmonton and looking for a restaurant that offers delicious food, excellent service, and a great atmosphere, Moxies is a must-visit. Weāll definitely be back soon, and we canāt wait to try more dishes on the menu!
Five stars all...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI usually don't write a bad review, I just don't go back. I like to write good reviews or nothing. This is an exception to my personal rule. I would like Moxie's to pass on to those who plan their menus.
This meal experience was not worth the money ($80 after tip, no alcohol ordered).
First off I would like to mention the cook(s) followed the recipes, except I got peanuts instead of cashews in my tofu lettuce wraps, (cashews advertised in the menu).
The actual meal presentation and contents should have been thought out better by those who plan/ create the Moxie's menu for the chain.
Moxie's is clearly trying to reach vegetarian customers.
Please use vegetarian cooks, or feedback from vegetarians to create vegetarian dishes for the menu!
A vegetarian knows how to make a functional conversion of a traditional meat dish.
To a vegetarian it's not foreign or hard to convert a recipe to meatless, it's something vegetarians do daily.
I ordered the "Tofu lettuce wraps". My husband and I shared the avocado dip, with tortilla chips.
The avocado dip was delicious, the pico de gallo / salsa was well made.
The presentation was completely off, for an appetizer to share.
The sides of the bowl (for the dip) is served in, is too high to see what you're aiming for while seated.
I was glad I wasn't on a first date with my spouse. I spilled some dip on the table, trying to get the dip out with just a chip not the spoon.
Very awkward with the lack of side plates and napkins, with the bowl having sides too high to see what you're getting.
The tofu lettuce wraps were a complete fail.
Hot cucumber is a no for me, picked those out.
The crispy wontons mixed into the mixture of fried tofu is not good meal planning. Crispy wontons should go on top where they can keep their crunch, these come mixed in and get soggy.
lettuce was completely wet, I had to pat it dry in order to use it.
The only things I ate from this meal was the tofu, half the lettuce and some carrot. A lot of wasted food.
If the cucumber was cold and in strips not chunks,it would have been great.
I will be making this a home but with major adjustments. This is what I will make as tofu lettuce wraps.
1)Crispy tofu with sweet chilli sauce (if using premade sauce) or peanut sauce if making the sauce from scratch.
2)Romain lettuce leaves, patted dry. Romain is easier to wrap and tastes better. If I was to use iceberg lettuce, I would turn this dish into a salad.
serve with sticky rice, like traditional Korean lettuce wraps
