This was my first time here, although many of my friends said they came to this waterpark as children and with their parents. Overall, we had a lot of fun. I think that was mainly because of the people I went with. Here are some of my takeaways from the visit:
-The wave pool was a lot of fun, and I enjoyed the hot tub as well.
-Having a tube will make riding the waves a lot smoother. You can’t bring outside tubes. You need to get them inside (I think you purchase tube rental but I’m not 100% sure since a lot of things were covered by the birthday host).
-Many of the lifeguards look very young. If they were in a true emergency, we questioned if they’d panic or be able to manage, and whether they’d be able to rescue heavier individuals. They also blow loud whistles often, so they’re more like lifeguarding police. For example, it’s 1 person to a tube, so they’ll blow whistles for rule breaking. Also, there’s an odd rule about being 10 metres away from one of the walls in the pool, so pool space is wasted.
-It’s loud with the people, so it’s hard to hear the music. When announcements are made on the intercom, while I could tell there was an announcement, I couldn’t hear the content.
-I did a few slides, including Sun Runner, Nessie’s Revenge, and Tropical Typhoon. Before riding some slides, you step on a scale. It makes sense in terms of safety, but it was a little odd stepping on a scale where others can openly see your weight.
-Some waiting areas for the slides looked like they were being held up with some scaffolding. 😬
-Some of the slides are quite rough on the body. For example, on the Nessi slide, my body flew up at least 3x off of the slide, which resulted in my back slamming against the slide a few times. Now, I feel like I need a massage to recover!!! If you don’t have back problems before riding the slides, you might after.
-Thankfully, I didn’t lose any of my contacts at the bottom of some slides given the force and speed, but one of my friends I went with said they lost a contact at the bottom of a slide once.
-Be prepared to spend A LOT of money. Once in, you can’t leave until you’re done your entire visit, which means they nickel and dime you for nearly everything. If you get thirsty or hungry, you need to purchase what they have on offer. The food and drinks are quite pricy, and the admission and cabana rental fees are also steep. The zip line is also extra if you want to do that, and there may be a fee for the pickleball, but I’m unsure since we didn’t do the pickleball. Thankfully, I went for an adult bday party, so much of the cost was covered.
-Looking at the standard waterpark sitting area, despite the high cost, if I went again I’d rent a cabana. I liked having a private/semi-private area during the visit and the rental includes access to individual bathrooms, which is nice.
-Shortly after opening, the wave pool and hot tubs weren’t too crowded. By 3 and later, the pool felt like a mosh pit with so many people.
-Be prepared to see many bandaids in the pool. 😬
-Mall guests can see the waterpark from some viewing windows. At first, it makes you reflect on what it could be like to be an animal in a zoo and who is really on display…the animals or human? After a short time, the viewing area isn’t really that noticeable.
-At arrival, it seemed quite warm inside. I felt like I was somewhere tropical. The water was a good temperature and I never felt cold.
-My friends did the zip line as well. Based on their experience, they rated it a 7-8/10. It sounds like this was actually one of the most reasonably priced things inside.
-This entire place looks like it needs a good renovation. I think some parts have been renovated over the years from what I could tell, but parts of the building are showing its age. For example, on the Sun Runner slide I could see what looked like other slides that are still there but no longer being used. There was also a lot of rust on many structures. I think they need to close this place for a few years and do a major reno to extend the longevity of...
Read moreLast week, we visited the water park with the family. After some convincing, I got my wife to follow me up on the Cyclone twist drop ride. The ride opened at 2:30; however, prior to us using it, someone else was stuck on another water slide. We watched security and paramedics rush to their aid. Our ride was delayed. Our ride opened, and we watched about half a dozen people use the ride. It was my turn, and my wife wanted me to go the first 3,2,1. I dropped. I made it to the bottom. Staring at the top, I see my wife getting into the pod. And then nothing 5 minutes went by, and I asked the worker at the bottom what was wrong! He said he didn't know. I waited to watch the young worker run circles around the pod my wife was stuck in! Finally, my brother-in-law waved me up. I ran back up to find out the key was stuck in the machine; it didn't drop my wife even after the countdown! She was told to keep the position in case it dropped her! Are you kidding me? They kept telling my wife to stand in a silly, uncomfortable position, and after countless workers running around, no one could find a key to open the pod and let my wife out. Panic is starting to set in! At no point did the workers get the waiting riders to back off. Instead, they used her, and as a trapped animal, well-on seekers started at my wife. They were making her more nervous. I begged for tools to open the pod. None were available. Later, they called a maintenance guy who worked for the MALL but had no idea about the ride, why the key was stuck, and why they didn't have another key. However, he had a pocket tool that we used as a wrench but refused to do it at first, saying he was not allowed to use it himself. My brother-in-law tried the two bolts, and nothing before I could take the tool; the maintenance guy did and complained about taking the bolts off for my wife to escape. After she left, not one person asked my wife if she was okay with it. No security or paramedics came. A manager came by and started to explain what had happened to the machine but never asked my wife if she was okay! We asked for another manager, her name was Keenyn. She, too, didn't ask my wife anything! We wondered what their offer was as we paid for a full day for 4 adults and a kid and also got a cabana. 500+ for 3 hrs less. My wife didn't want to swing after that. But she said too bad that there was nothing she could offer us! That they would have someone call us the next day! Well, there was no call two days later after we had CBC Edmonton News try to contact them. However, they refuse to discuss this matter further and won't return calls to us or CBC News Edmonton! They won't release the video footage to us, only the Edmonton Police 🤔 I am not sure we need to involve the Police or why they never shut the ride down after she got stuck!!! They let riders use it afterward! We want to shout out to Solomon. I hope I spelled that right! The only one worker cared and worried about my wife; the rest of me was running circles around her; the rest needed to be fired on the spot. There was no care for human beings; it was our fault, and we were looking for a refund. They made up lies that we were aggressive, which is typical when you're caught in a lie. We will see you guys in court. I took a video of the ride after we rescued her. The time stamp was on...
