My family (4 including me) went to the Cactus at West Vancouver (Park Royal branch) this Thursday. We go there often for special occasions. It was my and my twin sister's birthday dinner. The food and service were OK until we got the bill.

We ordered one starter and 3 main dishes. The burger we ordered comes with a green salad/fries. The waiter asked, "Do you want a green salad or fries with your burger?" We chose a green salad. Another order was a fish taco. The waiter asked, "Do you want fries or yam fries with your taco?" So we said fries. We thought that fries COME with the fish taco at no extra charge. The waiter didn't mention anything about the additional charge and we didn't know.

Also, we asked if there is any birthday cake available and the waiter said "Do you want a lava cake? Do you want two of them?" So we were like two would be great and the waiter didn't mention anything about the extra charge for our birthday cakes. We thought it was complimentary as always. When we got the bill we asked that we always ordered a birthday cake with no charge and the waiter said "It's only for the New York cheesecake." It was a lava cake for my mom's birthday a few months ago. Has the rule or policy about the birthday cake changed? If it has, we weren't informed about it and the waiter is the one who mentioned lava cake. He made it sound like the birthday cake they offer is lava cake. If he mentioned that the New York cheesecake is free for birthday cake we would order a different cake if we knew we are going to pay for it. Also, we wouldn't order two not to waste any.

The money is not the issue here. We were not happy with how the waiter made them sound complimentary/free. We couldn't even finish the fries and cakes because we were so full. If we knew that the fries and the cakes are extra charges we wouldn't order to waste them. On top of that, the decaf coffee we ordered wasn't fresh. It was not that hot either.

We felt like we were fooled by the waiter and very unhappy with how the waiter responded when we asked about...

We took some out of town visitors for dinner at the Park Royal location of Cactus Club Cafe . It was a bit of a late dinner so the restaurant was full when we first came and asked for a table. They said it would be about 20-25 minutes wait for a table, took my phone number and told me I would get a text when our table was ready. Actually, our table was ready much sooner. I got a text message within about 10-15 minutes. To me, that was a sign that they work quite efficiently at the restaurant. I was quite pleased with that.

I ordered the Vegetarian Raincoast Greens, my little girl had the Mini Burgers, Por Por (Grandma) had the Butternut Squash Ravioli with Prawns, and our guests had the Thai Green Curry. Our guests were suitably impressed with Cactus Club Cafe and we were happy with our meals as well.

Mini Burgers: Our daughter first tried these last year and became hooked on them. She used to always order Chicken Tenders at Cactus Club Cafe; now she orders the Mini Burgers every time!

Vegetarian Raincoast Greens: I am usually not a huge fan of salad but this dish has gotten to be my new favorite at Cactus Club Cafe. It’s perfect for when I want something tasty to fill my stomach but don’t feel like eating rice, bread, pasta, potatoes or any other carbohydrate heavy foods. Every time I've tried it the ingredients are fresh, crisp and tasty.

Service: Good Parking: Plentiful and free! Location: This is my favorite location of Cactus Club Cafe. It's conveniently located in the Village at Park Royal so there are plenty of shops to visit before or after your meal, including two supermarkets on the south side of Park Royal, and one more supermarket across the street on the north side...

⭐ 1 Star

If I could give less than one star, I definitely would.

I have been a loyal customer of Cactus Club, but my experience at the West Vancouver location was completely disappointing and unacceptable.

We went there with our guests from the U.S. after shopping at Park Royal, but the service and attitude we received were horrible and unprofessional. First, they told us to wait 30 minutes, but suddenly said they had no space for us because our group was “too large”! We were 4 adults and 3 children, which is a perfectly normal group size. When I questioned this, the manager claimed they didn’t have a large enough table and that children were an issue! Only after we mentioned our legal rights did they change their statement—despite the fact that there were plenty of empty tables.

But the worst part was after we left the restaurant. One of the staff members ran after us and falsely accused us of stealing their payment terminal! They were so rude and careless that they didn’t even realize they never brought a terminal to our table! I had paid directly at the register, yet they still chose to humiliate us with a baseless accusation in front of our guests. This was completely unprofessional, offensive, and unacceptable.

We own two businesses and always carry our own payment terminal, so this false accusation was beyond outrageous.

This experience was extremely upsetting and embarrassing. I absolutely do not recommend this location and will never return.

Additionally, I will be formally addressing this unprofessional behavior and the stress they caused my child through the...

Location, location, location. Kinda hard to miss sitting on the edge of Ambleside Park but... There's really only one thing that brings me into Google reviews tonight. I've been going to Earl's Restaurants for decades. I've alway found the food good, value good, service good...but... It would seem, since COVID, every service, retail and food supplier has fallen into what feels, to a layman, like there has been a , "Let's see what we can get away with..." culture. Now Earl's, as I say, is not alone but I really seemed to 'feel it' tonight. My goto Chicken Fettucini Alfredo is slowly moving into a stratospheric cost range. For a few noodles and maybe half a a chicken breast, the value has simply been lost. My tipping point ("what brought me in to reviews"), was my $2 piece of garlic bread. An 'add on' that use to come with most pastas dishes. It just sunk me. As for the pasta itself, it still remains a favourite but this shrinkflation thing is definitely pulling me back.

I am changing my review from 5 stars to 1 star after my recent visit to this location. This used to be my favorite location but not anymore, I’ve been a loyal customer at Cactus Club for many years and my recent visit has been nothing but disappointing and frustrating. We found hair in our Avocado Dip (please see the picture below). The server advised us that she will remove the item from the bill but when it was time to pay the dip was still there, I mentioned that to her and she became flustered and left to fix the bill. My adjusted bill was then presented to me by another individual, I asked her if she was the manager to which she replied “yes”. I told her that a hair was found in my food, she started to act confused. It felt like they were not trained or prepared to deal with situation like this. It was super awkward and very unprofessional how they (server and manager) handled this unfortunate incident.
