A restaurant held in high esteem by the Anglo establishment of the City of Westmount but what a total disaster this place is! One can have a much better meal at a community soup kitchen or a restaurant in a slum anywhere in the world. Atleast there would be more heart put into the preparation of the food.
This restaurant survives because it has no competition in the vicinity. On the weekday night the vast majority of the clientele present were regulars, all of a certain age group which is generally known to be averse to change. The restaurant relies on this group for its business and exploits their loyalty to the maximum. Daylight robbery!!!
My grilled swordfish main was over done and came with a lovely strand of hair swimmimg in a sea of what was explained to be a red pepper sauce. I got no apology for the hair in the food nor saw any expression of embarassment. The waiter serving our area kept his gaze fixed on a distant horizon as he promenaded around totally inattentive to the guests. Remarkable!
There is absolutely nothing Italian about this restaurant. It exemplies all that Italian cuisine and food culture isn't. Do yourself a favor, avoid Vago even if it means skipping a meal (good for health) and donate the 100 dollars you would spend here to a foodbank.
As I left the pristine City of Westmount, I gave thanks for the messiness of Montreal. One definitely eats infinitely better in...
Read moreWe came on Tuesday for lunch, 5 of us, the broccoli soup of the day was so salty I got a headache instantly with one spoon full, my husband and I both took it, our friends also tasted it and consensus was unanimous, extremely oversalted, we sent it back. I ordered the Taki Taki and Octopus, it was absolutely fantastic, mind you very small baby portions, it's a starter, just enough to wet the beak. Hubby got the fried calamari, also amazing, highly recommend, I should have ordered that too, then the grilled Veal over veggies, pounded to a thin patty, well prepared. The butter for the bread was rock solid, he should have took it out to thaw like an hour before opening, same for the desserts, the profiterole were also just out of the freezer, I couldn't get my knife through, had to stab it like some psycho to get to the middle, it should have been creamy but they were hard as a rock, however still delicious, not too sweet just perfect. The music was so loud I had to scream, then it was quiet so I think he figured it out. The paintings are fantastic, I was in awe just staring at them. Look, if you want professional perfect service and show off to clients go to the Keg, if you don't mind casual whatever service and overpriced food this is the...
Read moreI had a most unpleasant experience and I won't be back. This restaurant came highly recommended.
When I walked in my guest was already seated at a table immediately next to a table with guests. There was no one else seated in the restaurant at the time, meaning that guests could be spaced out a bit for privacy.
We ordered our food which included a shared Caesar salad. I requested pepper from the server which never arrived.
I ordered salmon and from the first bite I had to send it back because it was completely dry. Inedible. This was after waiting over 30 minutes for our entree. Other tables which were seated after ours received their food before we were served and they completed their meal and left before we were served dessert.
The service was incredible slow and spotty. I asked for a glass of ice for the water which I also never received. The restaurant had only a few tables of guests and there were two servers. No one was run off their feet.
After complaining to the head server, we did receive a complimentary dessert, which was very nice, and they replaced my salmon with a different entree, which I was charged for, but there are far better restaurants in Montreal than this one. Don't...
