I don’t usually write negative reviews, but I had a shocking experience at Salon Mods on Greene. DON’T GET YOUR HAIR DYED WITH OWNER, STEPHANE! After ruining my blonde streaks and attempting to fix my hair 2x this week, I left with purple streaks today. I spent over $600 and verbally abused. Here’s the story...I’ve been going to Mods for quite some time now. Me and my sister booked an apt the first day back from Covid. I showed Stephane an inspo photo of baby blonde/platinum streaks and he said he could do it. To be honest, I’ve asked him to lighten my blonde hair numerous time. He always nods and just does his own thing and it always ends up brassy... so this time I had an inspo photo to be very clear. And again, I ended up with brassy streaks and patches at the roots that were all off. I noticed during my cut and showed Stephane who put a second round of toner to fix the issue. Well it didn’t get fixed. My appointment was no joke 6 hrs and he never apologized. Kept blaming Covid and how I hadn’t dyed my hair in a while. He even asked me if I went swimming in a pool?! His attitude is beyond entitled and arrogant. Don’t let his silent attitude fool you...he’s a ticking time bomb. I went home and noticed the patches were still there. I showed it to a few friends who all suggested I go back. I spent over $600 and the salon doesn’t even give you a detailed printout so you don’t know what you are getting charged for. Sketchy! I called back a few days later and scheduled another appointment. Stephane decided to add more bleach to fix the blending issue and then told me he couldn’t achieve the blonde I requested because my hair “was too hard to bleach” because it’s been so long due to Covid. He kept making excuses but never took responsibility or acted apologetic. After the bleach, they added a “gloss” which was actually a purple hair mask. I found it odd to add a mask without a toner first, but the assistant assured me it would be nice and lighten the colour. The bleach absorbed the purple. I noticed a purple shade when my hair was wet prior to my blow dry (which they charged me without warning) and the stylist (not my regular stylist) said it wouldn’t stay. I left the salon and noticed at home that I HAD LAVENDER STREAKS everywhere! I walked back an hour later to show them and the receptionist (Corey, Stephane’s BF) wanted to give me refund but didn’t want me talking to Stephane. He was acting annoyed as if I’m complaining about nothing. He said he couldn’t see the purple so I offered to show him outside in the sunlight and talk there. I wanted to talk to Stephane to show him this mess and help me find a solution. They messed up my hair so bad that I can’t just take the money and get it fixed elsewhere. It’s so damaged after 2 bleaches/toners that I didn’t want to risk making it worse. Stephane walked up to my and started yelling nonsense like a lunatic. I was shocked and said “why are you talking to me like that after ruining my hair?” He was furious and almost shoved me and told me to leave the salon or he would call the police. The other owner (heavy bald aggressive man) cornered me and started yelling at me too saying things like “Stephane is the best and they don’t need clients like me” I didn’t leave right away because I was waiting for Corey to write the cheque for my refund. I called out to my stylist who felt bad for the situation and began to apologize. The other owner started yelling at my stylist for apologizing to me saying they did “nothing wrong”. I wish I had filmed this situation. I guarantee they wouldn’t have treated a man that way. I never experienced something like this before. After being vocal about this situation on various Westmount FB groups, I learned that I’m not the only client who he messed up and treated with disrespect. The negative feedback is shocking. Here’s a photo my my lavender streaks and my sister’s balayage that was supposed to be mocha coloured. Scroll down Google reviews and read Kayla’s story. Not far off from mine. It won’t be the...
Read moreI came here under the impression that they were professionals especially after seeing so many good reviews other Facebook page, and because the salon superficially looks nice.. but I wish I had read the other review on google.. maybe I wouldn't have had to suffer dealing with this awful place. The receptionists and lady who washes hair are very sweet; however, Stephane - the owner was very rude and ignored what I asked him to do, I asked for a simple toner and slightly lifted roots, I wanted ash brown hair, I showed him photos of what I liked and what I didn't like just to make sure he understood.. he seemed to understand what I wanted (but I later realized that he had no clue and was in his own little world). I specifically told him not to use peroxide stronger than 10 volume... my regular hairstylist in another city However, in completely ignoring what I asked for, he used 20 volume peroxide to "lift my roots" to a brassy carrot orange, he over lightened my hair and gave me full highlights (and charged me for them too!) and even after trying to "fix it", my hair still looked brassy (just darker orangey-brown) and he refused to do anything about it, he wouldn't even apologize, he was very rude and yelled at me when I went to the salon (after 3 weeks of leaving messages for a callback).. after yelling at me, and without allowing me to say one word, he walked away and said he's calling the police. I was shocked, but since I had done absolutely nothing wrong, and since he was the raging lunatic, I decided to stay and show them a video of him yelling in my face (inches from my face).. they advised me to sue him in small claims court for the hair damage, and to report him to the consumer protection bureau. If you have high standards for your hair, please find a better salon with people who genuinely want to please their clients. Oh and btw, my hair was cut unevenly, the right side was longer than the left side by about an inch - not that i even mentioned that to them, since the colour was the dire issue. I'm not sure if they are all even properly licensed. Just save yourself the trouble and go somewhere else, the stylists have too much attitude for such...
Read moreI called to inquire about the prices for a haircut. the receptionist quoted me,depending on hair length, thickness the price may vary between 75-85$. since it was in between what I was willing to pay I booked an appointment. I arrived 5 mins late to my appointment sat in Lee's chair at 10:50, and left his chair at 1:05! he took more 2 hours on my hair just for a trim! I understand as a hairdresser use the same techniques you use to give a major cut to someone and a trim and that for a him it doesn't matter what services you get. but as a client I was sitting in your chair for 2 hours to cut off around 1-2 inches of my hair. I go to pay to find out he quotes me a different price. obviously I can understand that depending on hair stylists the price may vary however, to tell me his time was a factor also plays a role! I do not accept this he took 2 hours to give me a trim. it is not my first time cutting my hair, I can not take this BS. Never will I be returning to this place!! do not recommend this place!!, or in fact the hairstylist! and yes, I did pay the surcharge of $30. my friend who was right after me, who does not even have the same length or 1/2 the thickness of me paid the same price, again because he took 2 hours. that is not acceptable! I can understand he takes his time but TWO HOURS for a trim, was...
