Clean, fast, friendly and nice sitting area but the pizza was atrocious. My wife and I purchased a small gluten free Hawaiian to share for 24 dollars which isn't a terrible price if it's good but we got it back to our room and the first thing I noticed was it had almost no cheese (if it even was real cheese) the ham smelled terrible and looked cheap and the whole thing was severely undercooked, the crust was half raw for crying out loud. Also the sauce tastes like cheap ketchup with no real pizza sauce flavor. Neither one of us are a very picky eater but we have both worked in restaurants (I was a cook and several restaurants) and food service and this was unacceptable food in our opinion. If I had more energy I would have walked it back to them but being late we ate a few slices and tost the rest and we hate throwing out food. I feel like the chef or head cook/manager or who ever is responsible for this so called pizza has never in their life had a decent pie. I would actually prefer Domino's over this garbage anyday of the week. Again, nice spot and great staff but we will never be back, the...
Read moreSo, I want a pizza and it's 11pm on a Thursday night. My wife can't eat gluten so it's pretty set that I'll also be eating a pizza without gluten. Sometimes though, I want regular pizza. Thursday was one of those nights. I don't live in whistler, I was traveling. My phone did not work in whistler because I didn't want to pay for international roaming. So where does that leave me? Like a pizza-less orphan going door to door seeking a pizza place that accommodates such a dietary restriction. Some places were like "yeah, we do gluten free but we close in 10 minutes." OK but Avalanche Pizza, that beacon of flavor in the dark night, stood out with its lit up sign beckoning to passerbys to turn in and have pizza until 3am. They do gluten free and they also do regular wheat dough slices. So I order a medium classic on a gluten free crust and the purchase a slice of regular sausage pizza to eat while I wait. Amazing. Can you believe 100 years ago, none of this would have been possible? Id just be up here in the mountains getting eaten by bears. 5 stars. What a time...
Read moreFrom Tuesday April 12th. Stopped in at about 330 on a beautiful day, place was empty. Asked about the happy hour special. The one that is prominently displayed in the "deals" section. The person working seemed like he was doing me a favour just talking to me.
"We don't do that anymore," he said, head buried in his phone. I didn't think much of it and ordered two slices and a pop for 10 and added a tip.
I don't know how long that pizza was sitting there, but it was awful, stale, and devoid of any taste. Frozen pizza from Fresh street had better texture, flavor, and value. I am finding it hard to articulate just how god-awful this was.
I get that Whistler is expensive, but Avalanche has the chance to be the "go to" cheap eats in a very expensive ski town. Maybe I got it on a bad day, but this isn't worth another try, especially with...
