My husband and I decided to visit the museum while on our honeymoon, and for the time we were able to spend in the exhibits they were wonderful. The art was beautiful and the little explanatory blurbs about the artists and styles on the walls were very informative. While it's not the type of review I'm sure most people are looking for, our time was cut short due to a nearby active shooter situation. While there was a lot of uncertainty, staff did an excellent job at not only making sure we were safe, but comfortable. They were incredibly accommodating and offered the space as somewhere safe to stay as well as offering refunds or vouchers to return at a later date. Both my husband and I felt very safe in the way they handled things and appreciated their hospitality from beginning to end. Essentially to say that the staff at this museum is hospitable and courteous in casual situations and crisis situations, and we felt confident we were going to be taken care of either way. We very much appreciate them and recommend a visit if you're...
Read moreThis is such a beautiful building, and I highly recommend visiting. The permanent gallery is a must-see. I strongly suggest joining one of their free art guides with your ticket, as they really explain the pieces since there are no descriptions. We had Helma take us around, and she was wonderful. She told us about the building's origin and then took us through each room. My favourite room is the mask room with old carvings from before the Indian Act, and the Emily Carr room. Her work is so gorgeous; it was special to see so much on display. I just wish they had even more of her pieces, especially her larger works. I would also love to have seen more historic pieces and art from the Group of Seven. I really hope they continue to add to the collection. This has been my favorite gallery I've visited in BC; all the others are not as well put together and should take note from the Audain. Looking forward to seeing how the gallery continues to evolve, and going to more...
Read moreWorthy of a good slow visit. Permanent collection features some very powerful contemporary coastal artists work and older, traditional pieces. Want to love the architecture of the building. I’ve admired the work of the firm that did the space for years, but here there are many awkward elements here that leave the visitor wondering if design over took more practical building needs and requirements. The entire building outside perimeter of the building needs to be roped off because the way snow builds up and falls off the building creates a hazard. This is in Whistler, it snows and it snows often. Despite that and other details this remarkable personal collection of Michael Audain and his wife are worth your time and consideration. It's an important collection of work from around...
