I hadn't been to a Taco Bell in well over a decade. There was a time in the early 90s when Taco Bell was a frequent haunt for me at lunch in the US. My first visit to a Canadian Taco Bell in the early 2000s, in Toronto, and ended with me in the ER with a serious case of food poisoning.
Recently I received a flyer in the the mail for the Taco Bell here in Whitby. I was always a fan of the steak chalupas in the US. That chalupas of any variety weren't available in Canada over a decade ago and the unfortunate incident mentioned above, explained why I hadn't been to this franchise for so long. I never found the tacos, of all things at Taco Bell all that exciting. But the chalupas, had me hooked from first bite. So when I saw chicken chalupas on the flyer I knew I was going to be in trouble.
My order consisted of two chicken chalupas and an order of chicken chips.
First, the chicken chips. I asked what chicken chips were. I saw the advertisement plastered all over the windows on entering the store. I was informed they were like chicken nuggets. The chicken chips came with a nacho cheese sauce. That may have been their saving grace. Talk about tasteless. McDonald's has nothing to fear from this offering. For the price, this is what we call a rip off. I'm reminded of the old Wendy's commercials, "where's the beef?", Except this time it's "where's the chicken". Been there, done that, never again.
As to the chicken chalupas, is it me, or have these things shrunk to portion size of snack food? Talk about disappointment. That being aside, there were tasty enough and I did enjoy them. I would order them again.
What really bothers me is this, two chalupas, and a chicken chip came to $16. And I found myself still hungry enough to go by tacos at the Fat Bastard Burrito Co, where at least for slightly more in price, I felt I got my money's worth.
Unfortunately, à la cart pricing, and this goes for every fast food restaurant anywhere, always screws one over in the wallet. Buy one of their deal meals and you get a ton of food for next to nothing. This alone explains why I am not a big fan of fast food restaurants anymore.
I rate this experience as a three stars out of five, as the chalupas were good, and the staff friendly with...
Read moreThis poor review of Taco Bell in Whitby, Ontario at 80 Thickson Road South is based on the shockingly immature, unprofessional 'service' rendered by the short Asian 'man' working at the drive through window at approx. 9:30pm Saturday April 13th. This individual is not fit for serving the public in any capacity, in my opinion. He is borderline criminal, in fact. I've been patronizing this restaurant for over 30 years. I have never, ever been treated so poorly in my entire life, at ANY retail establishment, never mind Taco Bell.
My wife and I ordered our meals at the drive through speaker. She ordered her food first, then I ordered mine. After paying and then parking to quickly eat before our movie started at 10PM we discovered there were only 4 tacos in the bag instead of the 8 we ordered. I went into the restaurant to get the confusion resolved only to have my integrity challenged ultra aggressively by this little man, with absolutely no remedy offered. Instead of offering to make the missing food for us he accused me of being 'too stupid' to order food correctly, and that he 'read our order back to us'. I was speechless! The angry look on his face spoke volumes. I was shocked to the point that I had to struggle to find words. I did not expect this unprofessional (borderline criminal) reaction! If it weren't for the very friendly and clearly professional ladies who stepped in quickly to take control of the situation from their incompetent coworker I would have forgone our movie tickets and called the police. Thankfully the ladies refunded my order in full and then re-made our entire order fresh, and offered many apologies, over and over again, which I accepted with thanks. It wasn't their fault but they did take the responsibility. Those ladies were kind and professional.
It goes without saying that as long as this deplorable, incompetent, immature little man is employed at this restaurant I shall never...
Read moreMy bf and I went one night around 8/9.. there were about 5 guys there for delivery pick ups when we arrived, they all left with a few minutes after we ordered. We were now the only 2 people in the place and it took 23 minutes before we decided to ask about our order, and another 3/4 to get our food?? At a fast food place?! They prioritized the delivery over dine in clearly. We had ordered 2 soft drinks and received one as the worked didn't here him order it I suppose, he didn't offer to get him one, once he asked. After a wait time of almost 30 minutes in total not one person apologized and the manager was the one we asked where our order was... nothing.
Foods fine, it's taco bell, you know what you're getting. But you may as well go to the drive thru or order, you'll get your food much faster that way! We counted about 7/8 staff we could see and it's all open concept, you can see there are only 2 people in there, but not 1 comprehended we were sitting at a table in plane veiw with no...
