Dan’s Cafe and Lounge, & Pastry Castle — Restaurant in Winnipeg

I ordered a cake, and even though I had placed the order a day before, the lady at the cafe kept telling me it was short notice. However, if it was indeed short notice, she shouldn't have accepted my order in the first place. Eventually, she did accept my order. The following day, I called several times to check on my order, but no one answered the phone. It turned out that there was only one lady working there who was doing everything from serving customers to making phone calls. I found it strange that such a large cafe only had one person working. When I finally saw the cake, it was not what I had ordered. The lady at the cafe told me that she had given me someone else's order. I was shocked and disappointed. Why should I have to pay a lot of money for someone else's order? Although the taste of the cake was satisfactory, the poor service ruined...

I've only been here once but had a great experience. I went here with a group of about 10 people to celebrate a birthday. Called a few days ahead to see if they would have space for us. They said they would set up for us and even offered to stay open late (which we didn't need, but I thought it was very generous of them to offer!) When we got there they had pulled some tables together to make enough space for us. The space had a very cozy and classy feel. The cakes were so decadent and yummy. I don't drink coffee but I got a steamer and it was great; it sounded like others enjoyed their drinks as well. The owner of this restaurant is unbelievable. At a red light intersection, he backed up and hit my car. I simply asked for his driver’s license and registration as standard procedure. He then claimed that I “just wanted to take advantage of him”, and deliberately stalled for 20 minutes knowing I was on a rush to work. What about you don’t drive like a toddler? His son was so embarrassed at the scene and apologized to me behind him. Initially I thought he might be new here and didn’t know how things work in this country. I was later appalled to find out that this guy runs a business and was featured in a CBC news article.
