Here’s a detailed explanation of our experience at Clay Oven Express.
First and foremost, the staff barely speaks English, which made communication a challenge.
Secondly, the food tasted like it had been preserved for days. We ordered Paneer Tikka Masala as our main course, but it was completely different from what we expected. It was so bad that it gave us stomachaches.
To make matters worse, we weren’t served with plates or any basic cutlery. We had to ask the staff for everything we needed, which was inconvenient.
The food itself was bland and lacked any salt or pepper. It was as if they had forgotten to season it.
We’ve been loyal customers of Clay Oven Express in the past, always ordering takeout because we knew they would deliver delicious food. But today, when we decided to dine in, we were disappointed.
We noticed that the chef was making food without wearing gloves, which is unhygienic and unsafe.
To top it all off, we had to wait for over 25 minutes to get our food, even though the restaurant was empty.
The staff’s attitude was unprofessional and rude. They gave us attitude and cold shoulders when we complained about the food and service.
I’ve attached some photos to this review, including a picture of the receipt, as proof of our experience.
It’s heartbreaking to have to throw away food, but we had no other choice since it was so bad.
I strongly advise anyone considering dining at Clay Oven Express to reconsider. They have a beautiful location on Portage Avenue, but the quality of their food is unacceptable.
We will never be returning to this...

We visited Clay Oven on a weekend for lunch with family, and overall had a good experience. The food was absolutely amazing, flavourful, fresh, and served hot. Definitely one of the highlights!
The restaurant itself has a clean and pleasant atmosphere, but it's worth noting that it's more geared toward take-out and delivery (like SkipTheDishes) than a dine-in experience. While we were able to dine in with no wait (likely because it was a quiet weekend lunch), we noticed that the setup is probably better suited for weekday lunch crowds and quick service for people working nearby.
We did run into a few small hiccups—we were given plastic cutlery and had to ask a few times for plates and other dine-in necessities. That said, the service was still very friendly and welcoming. The server Kamalbreet, who was incredibly kind and did her best to make us feel comfortable and well taken care of.
If you're looking for top-notch Indian food, Clay Oven delivers on taste. Just keep in mind it’s best suited for take-out or a quick bite rather than a full dine-in experience. We’d definitely order...
