We walked in to wait for a table, which was a half hour wait. The 1st water appeared to have sat there awhile as there was no ice in it. Second one filled was full with ice. Its apparent how busy they really are from the various temperatures of the food in one plate, which was wings. From one wing to the next i could feel the drastic difference in the honey garlic wings indicating multiple batches cooked and placed in one portion. The franks red hot wings were the same and we had to show them two that were red inside. They gave us discount of one wings and made a fresh batch of hot wings. The waitress was very apologetic and very friendly throughout our visit. We sat in the half booth half chairs and it was very roomy. I had a double smash burger no cheese with The side of plain fries, which were surprisingly not crispy. I appreciated the choice to not have the burger sauce on it as well as no pickles. I was charged $2 for a side of mayonaisse and the side of ketchup was free. The portion size was nice and i wasnt able to finish it, which says something. The burger was fresher when i waited an hour for it in takeout and the fries were not hot but seemed a lil fresher but still cold. My two sons enjoyed their poutines meals and left no crumbs behind age 21&9. Mom had the2pc fish and wasnt able to finish her fries either. All in all $30+/person is well worth a try anytime to see what this new establishment brings to the table. Big crowds here, and each table is filled. The thing i will be asking is how fresh can it possibly be with such high volume of people. It was good food at the average time apent just over an hour. Well worth the time. The food was good. My younger son loved the garlic bread that was...
Read moreMy friend and I went here today for the first time. The restaurant was very clean. It's very modern and the staff were super friendly. Easy access regarding parking as well. We enjoyed the baked chili with melted cheese toast. It was very good and the presentation was amazing. I will return one more time, but if I see what happened today, I will not return a third time. What made me unhappy was when we were seated, our chairs were wet. I had to ask the girl who was cleaning tables and chairs to wipe my seat. She got a napkin and dried it. Our menus stuck to the table because the table was wet. When I looked over this young girl was wiping the tables with the same cloth she used to wipe the seats. I'm really not quite sure why they have to wipe the seats with a wet cloth. The part that got me the most was that she used the same cloth to wipe the table that she used to wipe the seat where someone was sitting. When I mentioned it to her, she said, "The cloth has sanitizer on it." I didn't see any sanitizer bottle or any water of any kind. She just had the wet cloth. The idea of using the same cloth where someone was sitting and then wiping the table with it is rather nauseating. We don't know what's on that seat, and even if it's sanitized, the thought of that is gross. I don't see why there isn't one cloth used for the tables, and if you really need to clean the seats, can't you just use a duster? Other than that, I found Chris, the person in charge, to be very helpful and pleasant. He understood my complaint. Everybody was very friendly and kind and the food was delicious. I hope you will try Dave and LaVerne's, despite...
Read moreThis was a first time visit to this location with my guest and despite some apprehension based on the exterior...not exactly a selling feature, we decided to give this place a try. Our thinking was that this was a "greasy spoon"...we thought wrong!!
From the moment you walk through the door, you are transported into a 50's vibe diner with chrome trimmed tables and chairs, pictures of couples and families from an earlier time, and vinyl seats. While there wasn't a jukebox to complete the picture, the tables were full and the conversations were lively. We thought that we had a "Back to the Future" moment and thought that Biff was going to walk through the door next!
My guest started off with the chocolate shake...it was served in a proper milkshake glass, and they left the metal cup to finish the extra amount that was used to make the absolutely delicious drink.
I ordered the Reuben with a soup and fries, while my guest had the buttermilk chicken fingers and poutine. We were not disappointed with either choice. If there was to be a neutral comment, and I did share this with the manager who checked on every table, is the lack of a pickle with the Reuben and the odd addition of the toasted bread that accompanied the chicken fingers...a side of slaw probably would have been a better pairing IMHO.
Finally, what stood out to us was the service. Our server introduced herself, took time to identify the daily specials and then gave us the space and time to decide what to order. Friendly, respectful, and genuinely happy to be working there.
Will we return?...
