Been to Langside Grocery a handful of times over the past year, usually on a date with my partner. The atmosphere here is cozy and chill, it's not too loud or crowded. This past time we grabbed a table on the patio, which also had a nice ambiance.
We ordered two gin based cocktails and were satisfied with them, although they were on the smaller side. We thought about finally trying the food menu, but their food prices are honestly laughable. $4 for a deviled egg, $4 per oyster (when most places charge $3-3.50) $16 for potatoes. $12 for a slice of dessert. We have no issue paying for quality and frequently visit Nola, the Oval Room, Preservation Hall, Sous Sol, and Thomas Hinds for food/drinks and are always super happy with our experience. Bluntly, Langside Grocery isn't at the same level as any of the aforementioned when it comes to cocktails or ambiance so we declined to order food as it felt like a blatant gouge.
Would have been fine keeping them as a cocktail only place, but after reading the owner's unprofessional replies to reasonable reviews, we won't be returning as it shows a lack of respect toward guests and their hard earned money.
edit to reply to Owner: While I understand and support correcting inaccurate information left in a review, such as saying you order your meat from De Luca's and not Costco, that's much different than leaving sarcastic quotes as replies to people who didn't enjoy their experience.
Coming from the hospitality industry myself, I wouldn't expect a guest to address concerns with management/staff unless it was a true error, such as a meal/cocktail being prepared with incorrect ingredients or a billing mistake. A restaurant has the right to charge whatever prices they want and I think most people understand that, they're not looking for an educational seminar as to how profit margins work. They'll decide if they want to pay that price again, leave a review, and move on.
Speaking of profits, I'm very curious as to what you mean when you say that all profits go back into building maintenance/upkeep and that you're "custodians" of LG. If you're actually running as a not for profit venture, I think this is important to mention as many people are willing to pay higher prices to support a good cause,...

One of our diners was celebrating her birthday, and also plagued with a tricky garlic allergy, so we were worried we might not be able to find enough for her to eat to feel like a celebratory spread. Our server consulted with the kitchen and came back saying what was fine as-is, as well as what could be modded, and helped us curate a beautiful dining experience for her.
The service overall was warm, genuine, and positively effervescent. Our server made suggestions, shared in the conversation at our table, and never skipped a beat on keeping the cocktails and wine flowing. She even brought us a dish we hadn't ordered just because she thought we would enjoy it (we did!), on the house, and then sent the birthday girl home with a small mason jar full of creme brulee for later.
I cannot say enough good things about this restaurant. In the wake of losing Segovia, we've felt like we were missing a sharing-plates dining experience that felt as intimate and special as our old haunt, but Langside delivers. It may not feel as modern and polished on the surface as new spots like Nola or Tabula Rasa, but it has a double serving of old world charm.
I took absolutely zero photos of this meal, which is a testament to how effortlessly special the...
Read moreAn absolute cozy lovely after food before going home, drinking place to have a great drink talk for a few more hours and then go retire. It's one of those places, daniel craigs bond, or john wick or bob odenkirks nobody will step in after a bloody night and order a drink and sit at the corner or at the bar and drink up. :)
With vintage + retro decor coupled with bourgeoise appeal and quirky music, langside is a spot that you talk to your friends about and then take them to the spot.
I would frequent it if it was a tad bit cheaper, nonetheless the drinks are all your money's worth + getting served by a bunch of great people with great conversation that keep you in good company.
I stop by here once a month to have myself and my partner or a friend a corner and then talk about nothing or just sit there drink and watch.
They have all great drinks for you + whatever you want them to make for you they will.
Salut,...
