The Beer Can — Restaurant in Winnipeg

Unbelievable night here thanks to our server, Evan. We were here celebrating a friend’s birthday and gave an UNOPENED drink as a gift. Evan then came and confiscated the gift and told us we needed to leave. We complied with him but requested the drink back as it was a gift to our friend. Evan brought back to us an OPEN and EMPTY drink. He then stated that his manager said they cannot return the drink to us. We were obviously confused and asked to speak directly with the manager, to which Evan replied that “she’s not here.” I wonder then how she was able to tell him that we weren’t allowed to have the drink back.

I can’t think of this situation as anything other than unlawful retention of property and possibly discrimination. We did not signal that we were going to disrespect their business and start having drinks we brought from home. This was clearly a situation of the friend receiving the drink as a GIFT. Then to go ahead and “return” an empty drink back and not even allowing us to clearly discuss with the person in charge is unfair and malicious. There was absolutely no need to confiscate anything if we were asked to leave and complying.

I would appreciate management reaching out for further...

The 2 stars is for the atmosphere. Been twice now and won't be back.

First time ordered breakfast items which were small for the price and lacked flavour.

Most recent was for lunch on opening day of taco week. My wife placed here ordered and was asked what her table number was. We didn't get a table yet so she went to look.

While she did that I placed my order and was promptly and condescendingly asked if I knew my table number. Well I thought to myself, obviously not since my wife went to go find one. But I said it'll be the same one my wife is looking for.

He responded with well I can't do anything until she's back. My resonse was well I thought you could punch in the order and then the table number after. He said yeah but I can't send to kitchen until I have the table number. Ummm, well PUNCH IN THE ORDER SO ITS READY FOR WHEN MY WIFE RETURNS WITH TABLE NUMBER!

Seriously though, it's workers like this that keeps me from going back to a place. Lots of options where staff don't talk to...

I went here recently to celebrate a friend’s birthday, and it honestly turned into one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had at an establishment.

We brought a sealed, unopened drink as a gift for our friend. Evan, our waiter, noticed it & confiscated it without explanation, and then told us to leave. Although confused, we complied respectfully and simply asked if we could have the gift returned.

To our shock, the drink was returned opened and EMPTY. When we asked what happened, Evan said the manager instructed him not to give it back to us. Not only was this incredibly unprofessional, but it felt disrespectful and borderline theft.

There was absolutely no reason to open or consume something that clearly wasn’t for use in the restaurant and was meant as a personal gift. This kind of behaviour is unacceptable for any business, especially one that claims to value...
