Lilac Bakery — Restaurant in Winnipeg

Great place to get some nice, sweet treats! I am personally very fond of their cupcakes. The icing is always delicious, not too sweet or Whip-Creamy (if that's even a word haha) and the cupcake itself is always moist perfection. At this point I think I have tried a sample of almost every different thing they make and I have not been disappointed yet. I have come here for multiple different occasions for personalized cakes and snacks for events and each time, the food has been a hit at the party.

Every time I walk through the door, I am always greeted by the friendliest staff. They are always very helpful and even when they are super busy, they always have a smile on their face and you never feel like they are rushing you to purchase and get to the next person. The service is half the reason I go back. I have been back enough that they are beginning to recognize me.

I had called a day in advance to order cupcakes, was told to call first thing in the morning because they weren’t taking early orders due to being busy and I could place a hold on what I needed first thing in the morning. I called as soon as they opened and was told they weren’t doing orders at all and there was now a line up outside. In other words, I was lied to. I would have been there first thing, if told. But now I start work too soon to wait in line and can’t go. It’s Mother’s Day tomorrow (they are closed) and I won’t be able to get my order. When I brought this to their attention, there was no offer of a solution, just “sorry that happened”. I’m disappointment in their customer service and how they handled this situation. While searching for a place to order a wedding cake, I was recommended Lilac bakery. To test some of the cakes, It was suggested I order some cupcakes. Pictured left to right (top to bottom), I tried the confetti, salted caramel, vanilla, coconut, german chocolate, and strawberry cupcakes. Not pictured, I tried the gluten-free chocolate cupcake. I found the cupcakes to have nice flavors, with a not overly sweet buttercream icing, which I really like. My favorite was probably the strawberry, but the rest were really good as well. However, I found many of the cupcakes (except the chocolate batter ones, which were moist and fluffy) were quite dense, which may be from overbeating the batter (an easy fix with some quality control).
