What Is becoming clear to me is that there is a definite delineation between survival food, and cuisine that is created and drawn forth from generations of families who nourish each other with love and appreciation, preparing and sharing food that inevitably expresses this. Such a cuisine speaks to every cell and fiber of the body. Upon taking it in, a vibrancy expands outward, beginning with delicious sensations in the mouth as bouquets of flavor melt lightly on the tongue, then envelope the whole of one's BEing. All is very pleasing to the heart, the body, and the mind as well for it is amazing to find that food can have such an effect. This effect directs one to slow down, to savour the morsels of food for as long as possible allowing a slow melding of one essence to another. The whole experience can be held even more dearly when in the company of cherished others and an atmosphere that is warm and inviting.
This was my experience while dining at the Mesob Ethiopian Restaurant on Osborne Street in Winnipeg. It is my opinion that to dine there is to partake of heavenly food that is served beautifully by a most natural Gracious Host. (I do hope to do this more than once, though certainly once is a delightful memorable moment.)
In closing and in simple terms; the food is unique and amazing, the décor warm and welcoming, the music, pleasing and the host, courteous and delightful. All serve to relax the body and mind to be absolutely open to a new dining experience, destined I believe, to become a...
Read moreI had the pleasure of dining at Mesob Ethiopian Eats last Saturday with my family, and it was truly a delightful experience. Though the space is small, it is impeccably clean and offers a warm, inviting atmosphere. You can immediately tell this is a family-run gem, where the passion for good food and hospitality shines through.
Our host, Rebecca, was the epitome of kindness and courtesy. She made sure we were comfortable, often checking in to ensure everything was perfect, and her genuine care added such a personal touch to the meal.
Now, let’s talk about the food. Each dish was an absolute delight. The Vegetable Combo was vibrant and full of flavor, offering a satisfying variety of textures and spices. The Yesom Firfir was rich, savory, and comforting, while the Shiro was wonderfully balanced with just the right amount of heat and depth. For the meat lovers, the Kitfo was incredibly tender and perfectly seasoned, truly a standout. We finished the meal with a sweet touch—Baklava—which was flaky, sweet, and the perfect end to a memorable evening.
Overall, our experience at Mesob Ethiopian Eats was fabulous, and we left extremely satisfied. If you're looking for authentic Ethiopian cuisine in a warm, family-friendly setting, this spot is an...
Read moreExcellent Ethiopian food in Osborne Village! I had been to Massawa many times when living in the area years ago and was curious to try their food since the change. It is still delicious with high quality ingredients and large portion sizes.
We had the lentil samosas for an appetizer, which were served with simple mixture of finely chopped jalapeño and onion. The pastry was fried just right.
Sharing the Taste of Ethiopia combo with doro tibs, keye siga wot, alecha siga wot, shiro and yesom firfir was a great way to try a variety of dishes. The standout was the doro tibs with the rosemary. I would recommend sharing a combo between two people, as the portion sizes are large with all of the injera it is served with.
We opted for two glasses of wine; however, next visit I will try their Ethiopian Buna.
The staff were kind, helpful and appreciative of the business. The restaurant is decorated with bright colours and has soothing music playing in the background. We look forward to returning to Mesob and trying more of...
