I went to buy a cake at baked expectations with my 2 daughters—this was at 2pm, we were the only ones inside the store. We were “greeted” like we were a nuisance. We were the only customers, so it was not like they were too busy to be at least nice to us. The woman I spoke to acted like I was asking for a service they don’t provide. They provide cakes and I was wanting to buy one. The cake I ended up getting showed on the label, ‘chocolate cake’. I let the woman know this is the one I would like. she couldn’t even be bothered to mention that this cake would have bananas inside of it, and literally just wanted to rush me and my kids out of the store to carry on her amazing day she was having. I honestly decided not to let it bother me. When cutting up the cake for my sons 16th bday, we noticed it had bananas inside of it. Honestly, not horrible but you would think me asking for a simple chocolate cake, she would have let me know that it has banana in it. That should be a big part of her job as someone who is servicing up cake. I paid $75 for something that should not have been labeled only ‘chocolate cake’. Anyways, I can’t get a refund, and the store cannot even compensate because the “head baker” said no. It wasn’t worth it, and they’re so rude over there. They said, “ we’ve always been making our chocolate cake like this”. For someone who simply just walks in, who is going to be the one to let anyone know they’ve been putting bananas in there for years unless their employees are doing their jobs properly instead of being rude to curious customers. Carlos is the #1 reason my boyfriend and I keep coming back (aside from the delicious cakes of course!). By far the best server with excellent customer service and always goes above and beyond! My boyfriend and I go to baked expectations every so often, and each time, Carlos always takes time to say hi and have a little chat with us. He’s the friendliest server and an all around good guy!
This last time we went to Baked was a LONG time ago and we decided to go tonight for a little date night. (I recently cut my hair and my boyfriend has since grew out his beard/facial hair.) Before entering the nostalgic dessert restaurant, I pondered to my boyfriend aloud if Carlos was going to be here tonight. Lo and behold he was! It was so nice seeing him and he even complimented the two of us, which was such a pleasant surprise that he remembered us from not being there a long time.
As always, his service and drink recommendation were impeccable! I asked if he could make me a surprise, decaf hot beverage of his choice, and he came out with the most delicious macadamia nut drink, I can’t remember the name exactly, but it was delectable with whipped cream on top and wasn’t overly sweet! It was the cherry on top to our first visit back in a long time.
We come for the cakes, tortes and pies, but we definitely keep coming back due to our favourite server at Baked, Carlos. If anybody deserves a raise it’s definitely this guy. Carlos deserves all the high praise and recognition! Trust us, if you go to baked expectations and have the pleasure of having Carlos, you won’t be disappointed! To utensils being thrown across the table to us instead of being handed to, race discrimination as the waitress had a complete attitude change when she assisted other customers, asked for boxes and received paper bags, went and asked again for boxes to receive a box off a table that another customer had left behind, dirty, and broken. The waitress questioned our order and rolled her eyes when we told her what we wanted and mocked what we were ordering by saying it incorrectly on purpose or sarcastically. When we questioned one of the strawberries looking moldy to the waitress she said it looked like blueberry yet when i tried to scrape it off it wouldn't budge and was for sure mold. She then went to her coworkers and proceeded to laugh and talk about us as if we weren't standing right in front of them. I do not understand how a local company can treat their customers like that. I typically do not care much about customer service but the service I experienced today was ridiculously. I was also blocked on their instagram account for leaving a comment about my experience. They did not reach out to apologize or ask about my experience but just blocked and deleted my comment. The women that was serving us was completely rude for no apparent reason. I basically paid to be treated poorly. When I explained the situation to the person at the till they did nothing, not even apologize for this waitresses actions.
