It's weird to say but, a major turn off for this restaurant is how quickly to food appeard onto our table. It was like faster than fast food. With how high the prices are, I'd expect a little more effort in 'freshness' but you just know everything is just sitting in the back under a warmer ready to be sloshed out.
I love beef chow mein. It's what I order at pretty much any chinese restaurant. It's a dish that tastes delicious and has perfect textured oily noodles. You just can't go wrong! But this place, it was overly oily and the noodles were just hard, dry instant ramen like noodles that I had to mix like crazy and wait for the sauce to 'cook' them for me. It just showed no pride and pure laziness in their dishes and presentation.
Also it would have been nice if most of the vegetables in our dishes wasnt 80% cabbage. Other restaurants have a nice balance especially with broccoli, watercress, etc. But this was like overload of cabbage in every vegetable dish. Obviously the owners do this so us suckers pay full price for vegetables and only get scrap...
Read moreI have meant to eat hear for sometime and finally did. I was very impressed. Our waiter was helpful, timely and directive in a way that made me smile. The food was out promptly. What I didn't expect is that this would be my favorite Chinese restaurant in Winnipeg. Everything I ordered was very good quality, not greasy, and no food court style dishes here.
I got the Deluxe won-ton soup, It is very deluxe! Full of fresh veggies and shrimp, chicken, pork and beef. The won-tons are fresh and made in house.
The honey chicken was excellent and made fresh, not frozen, the chicken fried rice and plain chop suey were both perfect dishes to eat the chicken off of. They were tasty but not overly flavorful, as to let the main dishes shine. All the portions were generous. Obviously I recommend...
Read moreSad to say Spicy Noodle House has really fallen downhill and the current star rating shown is likely due to past rating when the restaurant was under different ownership. This used to be my, and my families, favorite for Chinese food, but after my last few visits i can say i will never return. The hot and sour soup, once a thick tasty broth full of bamboo, tofu and shredded pork is now nothing short of a bowl of hot vinegar with a shards of chopped up green onion and noodles. The once generous Deluxe Cantonese Chow Mien full of meat and vegetables is now just a big bowl of noodles with a few thinly sliced pieces of broccoli and carrot, and a few pieces of meat strategically layered on top. Save your money and don't be disappointed and go somewhere that is not living on its...
