Pro tip: order the fried chicken
I was hesitant to go when I saw the review rating. I now regret not finding out about this spot sooner.
It had a lovely interior with very comfortable seating. Everything we ordered was delicious.
Pro tip2: order a sandwich and add $2 for the full size French onion soup. (It's pricey on the menu, but my friends did agree it did look like a $11 soup.)
We did the fried chicken $15, fish and chips $18 and a avocado bacon chicken sandwich $16 with the French onion soup ($2 upcharge). Everything we ordered we loved. I was surprised mostly because of the low rating I saw on Google. The food definitely exceeded our expectations.
This restaurant has been through a few changes I was told by my friend. Most of the lower ratings I think are from before.
This restaurant is located inside the Hilton Hotel at 1800 Wellington. There is ample parking in the hotel parking lot.
I didn't notice any special deals going on. Would love it if they did have something. We did have some minor service issues (they did not ask if we wanted salad or fries and assumed fries), but that was about all. They were exceptionally patient as we were catching up and not...

The Granville Island Raspberry ale was amazing, perfect for the season. It is light, fruity and a good balance of the maltiness and fruitiness.
The bar chairs are so comfortable and the music was just right, you don’t have to yell to be able to be heard. I would definitely make it a reason to come a bit earlier when picking up someone at the airport to t enjoy of few bears and grub here at the Oak and Grain.
PS: Oh yeah, almost forgot, the...
Read moreWhen dining in a restaurant on a Saturday night, one presumes that a kitchen would be fully stocked for service. However, this was not the case for The Oak & Grain Winnipeg. During our dine in, we were told that certain items were not in the kitchen. One such item was chicken wings. Hesitantly, we ordered guacamole with chips and quesadilla. When the food arrived, about 80% of the chips were undercooked and soaked in grease to the point where i was able to sqeeze droplets of oil out of them, and the fries that came with the quesadilla seemed store bought and stale. I should mention that the waitress was kind and showed empathy towards us. My suggestion is to order in from somewhere else or find another...
