The Colonial - Saloon & Restaurant — Restaurant in Sal

Sitting outdoors: as other guests finish their food and plates are left out for a while - swarms of flies are coming to the tables. We then moved to sit indoors. We ordered 4 wings, garlic bread w/ cheese and 2x penne arribiata w/ chicken. After 35 minutes waiting for food it arrives - 8 chicken wings instead of 4, Garlic bread with no cheese and 2 pastas with no chicken. I didn’t make a fuss but I did say I only ordered 4 wings which the waitress was being stubborn that I didn’t. I accepted it as a mistake from language barrier. I carry on eating and I dip the garlic bread in the sauce of the pasta and a very long hair from the sauce comes out on the bread. Not to mention that the chicken wings looked more like pigeon wings with hardly any meat and bones sticking. At the end of it my husband was put off the food and I asked if I could pay for 1 pasta, garlic bread and 4 wings as we would rather eat elsewhere. They didn’t accept and tried to blame me and say that i put my own hair in my pasta! We were sat right near a camera so I told them to check the cameras! After 15 minutes of them going back and forth speaking on the phone to who must be their manager, huffing and puffing - we paid for everything and left!!! Food is revolting , service is poor and the cleanliness is the worst. Try somewhere else in Santa Maria as this is the only place which I have been beyond...

I had mixed feelings when I saw the very low star rating. There was a real wait for service and drinks. We saw two separate parties leave! However this is usually the case when you have the limited amount of staff making individual endless cocktails.

The food took so long we were given a free round of drinks. Which was fair. The staff were very pleasant, but very few in numbers causing the delays.

The food looked good and tasted fine, but two of our party had bad stomachs the next day, which was clearly from here. My advice would be to proceed with caution!

Update - 4 days later and people are still unwell! 🤢🤮 God only knows what they are doing backstage!! Reducing...

This year: Just as good as last time.

Last year: Please read to the end. This is a great place. It is clean and the food is good. Very much a cowboy themed restaurant. The staff are friendly and helpful. Also, the place has an upstairs, which is really quant. I'm going to come here again before the week is out!

Turns out that's two nights on the trot! It's definitely a go-to place in Santa Maria!

Powercuts are frequent on Sal. This place has its own generator - which sounds good, right? No. So many people flood here that they can't cope , but they don't stop people coming in, and they don't deal with them well. I avoid this place when most of the dinning...
