I’m a lover of fish and chips and grew up eating it in England. I’ve searched for good fish and chips all over the world - in the US, Australia, Germany, Korea, and many other countries. Until now, I’ve been disappointed every single time, and I’ve seen some true abominations being served as fish and chips in my time. Usually, you get 2 or 3 small pieces of fish - that’s a sure sign of bad fish and chips. Proper fish and chips contains one big piece of fish. My experiences were so bad that I came to the conclusion that proper fish and chips could not be had outside of the UK, maybe with the exception of Ireland, although I haven’t tried it there yet. Well, my world view has just been turned on its head. After having an outstanding seafood meal at The Lagoon the day before, one of the other restaurants at the Cinnamon Grand, I decide to be bold and give the fish and chips at Cheers Pub a chance. Wow!!!! I was blown away. As soon as the plate came out and I saw one big piece of fish, I was hopeful that this could be legit. Indeed it was. The batter was crispy, not greasy, and the fish beautifully soft and flaky. I was told that they use Modha (Barramundi). It’s not your typical cod or haddock, but it may even be better. I’m so happy that I’ve found this place and will be back on my next trip to Colombo!

Cinnamon Grand consistently delivers excellent service and dining experiences, and Cheers Pub is no exception. It has been my favorite spot to unwind with friends and colleagues over a drink. The staff is attentive and provides exceptional service. Previously, the pub's smaller space made it challenging to secure a table, especially on busy Fridays. However, their recent relocation within the hotel has transformed the experience. The new venue is much more spacious, featuring multiple screens for enjoying your favorite sports and still retaining the pool table for added fun. Cheers Pub also offers a delightful selection of seasonal cocktails. I recently tried their Christmas eggnog, which was absolutely amazing, and their mulled wine was just as impressive. Their pork chops, Pork ribs and onion rings are personal favorites, with perfectly portioned, flavorful bites. The ambiance is inviting, catering to a variety of preferences, and the staff consistently goes above and beyond to ensure guests have a memorable experience. I highly recommend Cheers Pub for a great time out!

The restaurant with the worst service at Cinnamon Grand. During our stay at the Cinnamon Grand, we visited all the restaurants at the hotel and this place disappointed us the most. I have visited Cheers Pub before and it seems like the service there hasn't improved. The staff doesn't seem to care as they were too busy involved in their own conversation. No one came to the table after serving the food. To test their attention, we got up to leave without paying the bill and they had no idea we hadn't paid for it, until I informed them of how horrible their service was. The only reason for 2stars is for the food cause the service and hospitality didn't exist at this place. To make things worse, they had more staff than customers at the time we visited. Hope the management takes note of this and do better in training the staff to be more attentive and interactive with customers. Attitude and personalities of the servers make a huge difference when it comes to good vs bad experiences at establishments catered towards service and hospitality.

Considering that the Cheers Pub is located within the always bustling Cinnamon Grand Hotel in Colombo, we had quite a disappointing night at Cheers. Service was woefully slow, and it took a long time for the menus to be brought to us and for the food and drinks to be served. One of our party ordered Tamarind Arrack but was informed that they were out of Tamarind, another of our group ordered some other drink but this was not available, one ordered fish and chips but they said that they had just sold the last one although later on in the evening we saw another customer having it. The Chocolate Chip Bread Pudding was a disgusting black mess (so much for chocolate chip). In all fairness, our waiter tried his best to please us but I am guessing that they were short staffed and no excuse for some of the food and drink not being available. Overall, a wasted Saturday night. Will definitely not be going there again as it certainly didn't bring any Cheer to our Saturday night.

Disappointed with the food my children received. They specifically repeatedly mentioned "no onions please" on their mac n cheese as they have been served onions with the mac n cheese before. The person who took the order said they don't add onions anyway to the mac n cheese. But they repeated no onions please. 20 minutes later received 2 dishes of "onion" mac n cheese! When questioned why there's onions in it the 2 staff were talking to them selves making us wonder if they were waiting for the kids to eat and forget it, which the kids did as they did not want to make a fuss. But the mac n cheese was loaded with onions! The lady who served did ask if it should be replaced. Since the kids didnt fuss, said no. This shouldve been replaced without even asking. Spent Rs. 2000 x 2 for a dish they did not fully enjoy. Food and staff rating given this time because of this blunder.
