We visited Granbell Hotel Colombo for a family lunch recently, and it turned out to be a fantastic choice for an affordable yet enjoyable buffet experience. The per-person rate was very reasonable—much lower than what you’d pay at some of the fancier spots in Colombo—and for the price, the buffet absolutely delivered value for money. It’s not a 5-star spread, so don’t come expecting caviar or extravagant displays, but what they offer is hearty, tasty, and well worth the budget. The food selection had a good balance of starters, mains, and desserts, which kept everyone in the family happy. The starters were simple but flavorful—think crispy bites and light salads that set the tone nicely. For mains, there were a variety of options, including some solid curries, rice, and protein dishes that were well-seasoned and satisfying. Nothing overly fancy, but everything we tried tasted fresh and homey, which we appreciated. The dessert section was a pleasant surprise too—plenty of sweet treats to round off the meal without feeling like an afterthought. Overall, the food was great for the price point, and we left feeling full and content. Service was another plus. The staff were friendly, attentive, and kept the buffet area tidy, making sure dishes were replenished quickly. They weren’t over-the-top, but they got the job done with a smile, which made the experience smooth and pleasant. One unexpected highlight? The toilets! They were spacious, spotlessly clean, and even had those fancy remote-control washing features—definitely a step above what you’d expect at this price range. It’s a small detail, but it stood out and added to the overall positive impression. Granbell Hotel Colombo is a solid pick if you’re looking for an affordable family lunch spot with a decent buffet and good vibes. It’s not luxurious, but it doesn’t pretend to be, and that’s part of its charm. For the cost, the food, service, and facilities (yes, including those high-tech toilets) make it a great deal. We’d happily return for another casual family meal when we’re in the mood for something budget-friendly yet satisfying.

Oh man, where do I start. First shock was, there was absolutely no one to assist us with the luggage. The lobby is on the first floor, so we had to carry everything there, which was hard as my mom fell by the pool and couldn’t take anything so I had to drag everything myself. We booked two of the highest class rooms available on the dates, one for each of us. When we got to the reception desk, we were asked if someone assisted us with our luggage, to which I said no, there was noone downstairs. The woman answered with an irritated voice,we SHOULD HAVE CALLED SOMEONE. What the hell did she mean. Leaving the bags on the pavement alone, getting a lift to the reception to ask for someone to help us,going downstairs again to show them and up again? What the heck? The worst was she made us feel we did something wrong, not them! The rooms we got after paying for the best rooms available for our dates… the Superior Double with sea/city view-man I wish I took a photo of the view. The rooms were on 4th and 5th floor with the same view over a roof falling apart , a dirty street, and maybe an inch of the sea visible. I demanded for the rooms to be changed. We got rooms on the other side of the building on 21st and 23rd floor. That was much better, but not what we expected after paying for the best category available. As for the rooms, jesus. They look good on the photos, but I am an interior designer and the flaws in the design are just inexplicable. And they are not tiny and will make your life(and night) soo so miserable. I still can’t believe they did it. So first of all, the screen controlling the a/c is in your face, impossible to turn off and so bright it makes all room bright as day- I attach the photo. Good luck sleeping. And if you think you can look away… there is another light, this one flashing non stop every 3 seconds or so, on the ceiling. Wanna watch tv? Good luck- there is no couch opposite, you may only watch it from a sofa or bed, however they sit perpendicularlyright next to the big tv and the rooms are tiny- I salute the genius behind designing the place. Then, the lifts were all out of order and I couldn’t get to my room at all. At first I thought it was the key,but it wasn’t. I met two happily drunk ladies stuck in the elevator trying to get to their room to no avail, just like me. Basically the lifts were working but they wouldn’t react to pushing the floor buttons so people would stay in the lift hoping someone outside will call the lift to their floor or close enough to then use the stairs… mind you the hotel is 27 floors. When I managed to getto my room after going up a few floors by the stairs- I wanted to call the reception. But the phone was out of order. They fixed it and it broke down again later. Well if you think who cares about the room, the pool is awesome here… think again. There are a total of 4 or 5 lounge chairs in a 27 floor hotel. You do the math. The cherry on a cake. I went to the pool and asked for a towel. You will not believe what I heard… „ all our towels got wet in the rain miss. Please take the towel from your room”. You may guess how this story ended, with me going to the room to get the towel, but the lifts out of order…. And this is still not all of the bad stuff . And we only stayed here for one night…AVOID AT ALL COST!!!

Grandbell Hotel Colombo is a true masterpiece of elegance and comfort, offering an unforgettable experience that became the highlight of my Sri Lanka trip. The hotel’s location is unbeatable, with stunning beach views that set the stage for a serene and picturesque stay. The restaurant, also with breathtaking beach views, served delicious food and beverages, complemented by an excellent selection of wines. Every meal felt like a special occasion with the mesmerizing landscapes as the backdrop. The infinity swimming pool is undoubtedly a showstopper. Not only is it perfect for a refreshing swim, but it also provides an extraordinary photo opportunity with the skyline and ocean blending seamlessly in the background. The pool area is incredibly well-maintained, and the views from there are simply magical. Cleanliness throughout the hotel was impeccable, reflecting the staff's dedication to providing a pristine and welcoming environment. Safety was clearly prioritized, allowing us to relax and enjoy our stay without any worries. The hotel’s proximity to Colombo city made exploring the area incredibly convenient. Traveling around and returning to the hotel was completely hassle-free, adding to the overall experience. Breakfast was the absolute highlight – a delightful array of options that catered to every palate, leaving us looking forward to it every morning. The staff’s kindness and attentiveness were exceptional, making us feel genuinely cared for throughout our stay. Grandbell Hotel Colombo delivered a perfect blend of luxury, comfort, and convenience. My family and I had an amazing time, creating memories that we will cherish forever. This was, without a doubt, the best stay of our visit to Sri Lanka.

first time i booked Granbell in November, it was perfect experience, i took the cheapest room, but the view was super good the ocean and the city. the room was clean and the staff were very friendly! i had a birthday in that day, they delivered flowers from my friend straight to my room. worth the money! i decided to book Granbell one more time in March, because i had wonderful experience there. my room was not the cheapest one, two hundred dollars per night to be exact. i added a notice when booked, was asking for a room with the sea view from sunset side. when i checked in my room was on the fifth floor, looked older than the previous one, curtains were full of dust, the floor was dirty, my feet were black after, smelled like an old basement, and the view was on abandoned, shattered building ok the opposite side to the sun! i didn't need a terrace, because it stunk. in the morning i eat their breakfast, it was okay, in 40min i felt nauseous, in 6 hours i was in hospital with a diagnosis of food poisoning! i didn't eat anything before or after my breakfast, and i've been living in Sri Lanka for 5 months, so i know local cuisine, it's never happened to me before. i have a bill for 95$ from hospital, one more night in Granbell?? my weekend was ruined. i will never book a room in this hotel, there are a lot of other decent hotels in Colombo.

I spent a total of 8 nights at this lovely hotel located in Kollupitiya directly opposite the Kollupitiya Railway station. The rooms and bathrooms are spotlessly clean, very comfortable and fitted with all amenities. The sea facing rooms are a visual delight. The restaurant serves a varied breakfast and the infinity pool and bar/ restaurant on the 27th floor serve up great food and amazing views of Colombo. A very big thank you to NAWODYA WIJESURIYA (Reservations) - Nawodya really went the extra mile in assisting me with my reservation and securing exactly the room I wanted. She is an utter professional. Her response time is excellent and she kept in touch with me for a month prior to my arrival in Colombo and she was pivotal in my decision to stay at Granbell. RUVINDA DILSHAN ( Front Office / Reception). Ruvinda is a consummate professional who went the extra mile to assist me. His response time is excellent. He is always pleasant to deal with. He always follows up to see that the customer is satisfied. He is utterly professional when dealing with customers, he understands customer needs and is an expert at customer centricity. He is a remarkable employee who lifts the entire Granbell brand. Other staff who made this stay such a pleasure: Gobinath, Gamunu, Diyath, Kausalya, Mihiranga & Ishani.
